on the grandbaby front

Melinda and the boys. :) I didn't take this picture but I loves it!!

darling melinda and precious grandbabies.

“Making the decision to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ”
~Elizabeth Stone

And when you have a grandchild...
your heart walks around in Omaha.

I miss them.
Malachi cries a lot and wants to be held all the time.
I want to hold him.
I actually have an ache in my heart, the wanting to hold him is so strong.

Sunday I will hold him and I will hear Asher's dear little voice.

I will treasure every moment.

  1. Dear Donna, this is a precious photo of Melinda and your darling grandsons. It brings back many memories for me, of when I had our children while Jesse and I lived in New Jersey for 9 years.

My dear Mother (and my Father when he could come too) made the long trip by air from Anchorage to the East Coast to be with me at least 3 times a year, sometimes 4. It was a financial sacrifice but she could not imagine it any other way. (besides, when you live in Alaska, flying to places is just part of the lifestyle :-)

What a gift those visits were for us all. For me, just to have another tall person around who loved the kids as much as Jesse or I, and who also loved to do laundry ;-) was priceless. I never really appreciated my mother as much as when I had my babies. She gave my first born the first bath - I was scared out of my mind! I could not get over how calm she was. It was catching. Her peace of mind spilled over to me and made me a better Mom.

You are a wonderful Grandma, Donna - I can just imagine how excited they will be to see you (and other family members I'm sure) come walking through the door! You will be in my prayers for a safe journey and a beautiful time together.

    1. **another tall person**

Yes. YES! Grateful for that today as Scott holds down the fort with barfing 4 year old while I have 8 and 10 at swimming lessons.....

{{{LIKE}}} Tall people who love children and do laundry are a blessing! jep

Darling photo of your darlings! So glad you get to be with the little ones soon!!! (The way Asher is holding his little finger was something Jamey used to do all the time when he was a wee guy. If asked about it, he would say "I'm just feeling anxious." We had no idea where that came from, but it was so adorable. Still is, actually.)

  3. I saw a brand new baby at church, Sunday, and had that longing to hold it...(and then give the baby back). Oh, that feeling of holding a baby and kissing his/her head....

Be safe traveling to see your babies--all of them--and enjoy snuggling with Malachi and Asher.
And, may Melinda enjoy her short reprieve take advantage by taking some naps! (I wish I had listened to all the mamas who advised me to take advantage of grandmothers' visits, but I felt I needed to entertain. What I didn't get was the grandmothers weren't coming to see me, they were coming to see my boys...) :)

Have a great week and safe travels,

  4. We are not going all the way to Omaha. Just a quick visit as the guys wanted to golf. We will be in 'who knows where' iowa.

    1. ~ No matter where you are, where you meet up - you get to hold that baby - and see those sweet faces. Lovely.

    3. Holding your first grandbaby for the first time is amazing! COngrats!

  6. Anonymous12:19 PM

Precious! Cassie sent us a picture of her holding her niece on her husband's side and Terry and I both longed for the day that baby in the picture is hers and OUR grandchild. Patience, patience!! I try not to nag. Haha. Lucas is getting married in November and will be practicing NFP (good Catholic converts that he and his fiancée are) so maybe our chances are better with them. Lol. Only in the QL comments section would I be so transparent. :-)

    Enjoy those grandsons on Sunday!

Hold those babies. Who is going? You and Katie?

RRRRRRoad trip! Tell us how you pack, where you stop etc.

  9. Oh, I'm so happy for you, Donna. Sweet picture. Those grandbabies need their grandmama to hold them and love on them. So glad you get to do that this weekend. Mine are in the same town and I know the blessing that is.

Oh Donna! I'm so glad you get to see your grandbabies this weekend. Hopefully, you find a nice cool place to hang out and the little ones sleep for the car ride.
My sister-in-law is due to have her baby this Sunday. Any day now I'll get to hold my new niece. : )

What fun no matter where you are to get to be with the grand babies and hold them and cuddle with them and smell their sweet heads. And, more "tall people" for Melinda to talk with and have take over minding the children for a while. Hope you get to take loads of pictures and give tons of hugs. Praying God's blessings on your journey. love and prayers, jep

Enjoy them Yaya and Grandpa and Aunt Katie!!!! How much fun!!! --- love Nana

  13. (((((Donna))))) At this moment, I am aching to hold my precious almost 4 month old granddaughter. My son and his family were here for 10 days from CA and I got to meet her for the first time. I rocked her and fed her and changed her and she cooed and smiled. They left yesterday and I am in the midst of serious withdrawl. The tears come way to easily. Being a grandparent to grandbabies who are on the other side of the country, really stinks!

    Enjoy every single minute!

  14. I truly do recognize that ache in your heart as I have felt it myself. And it was sooooo wonderful to have it temporarily alleviated by a recent visit. Wish ALL my grands were closer as I truly miss those little people who warm my heart oh so deeply....

  15. Oh, those are hard and wonderful and hard and tedious and hard and beautiful days. I'm so glad you get to hold him soon. Melinda Sue, take care.

  16. I understand so much how you feel, Donna. And I'm sure Melinda Sue would be happy to have your help, in those wonderful but tiring moments.
Thank you for your pictures :)
    Very friendly.

  17. Late to the party...enjoy those babies in Wherever Iowa. Where family is, it is home, yes?

Thanks for praying for Madelaine, QLCS. She has only a few loose ends to wrap up and then we'll be there Thursday night to start the graduation celebration! One more prayer request: our son Zack (who now lives in Seattle) is going to come down and surprise Madelaine. Please pray he gets there on time to see the graduation. It's going to be tight, but oh! so special to see him again and see the look on M's face (-:

Melinda, I am sure you are tired these days, but know that I am praying for you this morning to have eyes to see the magnificent work you are doing. What handsome sons!!!

  18. I am glad you can hold him soon. That must be so difficult. To be so far. I am glad that I never moved far from my parents. I absolutely could not do it. When I went to college so many of my friends went off to be missionaries. We all majored in Bible and then one other thing. Well, I prayed and prayed and asked Jesus to please let me find a job that was close to my family where I could share Jesus' love but also be near the people I loved most. He did!
I had the most wonderful job teaching children that lived in a housing project in Washington DC. I was about 3 hours from my family. I thought that was kind of far. I am so thankful I found a job in Philadelphia after that first year. Now I am close enough to see them every day if I needed to.
Sunday will be wonderful. Rock and hold and love on your little munchkin.

Hello. So nice to see you. Would you like to leave a comment? Be very kind.
