Be Strong
Be strong!
We are not here to play, to dream, to drift;
We have hard work to do, and loads to lift;
Shun not the struggle-face it; 'tis God's gift.
Be strong!
Say not, "The days are evil. Who's to blame?"
And fold the hands and acquiesce-oh shame!
Stand up, speak out, and bravely, in God's name.
Be strong!
It matters not how deep intrenched the wrong,
How hard the battle goes, the day how long;
Faint not-fight on! To-morrow come the song.
Maltbie Davenport Babcock
Wouldn't that poem make nice copywork?
After the comforting has been done...I think we can all use a big dose of courage.
Press on.
Be strong.
"We are not here to play, the dream, to drift"
Bummer.
Be strong.
And hey! If your were a man with the name Maltbie you might need this kind of encouragement to make it through grade school! :o)
*****
I am going through my whole blog and writing down posts that I think might be nice in a Quiet Life book. I have no idea what I am doing but I am doing it anyway. Just taking a step in that direction.
I spotted this one just this morning.
Maltbie. Still makes me smile.
Encourage one another,
Donna
I would be first in line to buy a Quiet Life book :).
ReplyDeleteYou are a dear, Amy! Thank you.
DeleteSince this a place where cutting in line would be inappropriate, I will say I would be second in line. Reluctantly second. Second only to Amy J in WI. (-:
ReplyDeleteQuiet Life: The Book. Happy thought, indeed.
Di
I have thought about making booklets out of my blog posts... but when it comes down to making the decision, laying out the photos, and positioning the text, I get bogged down. ;-(
ReplyDelete"Maltbie" - this guy's mother's maiden name. I love the hat tip to heritage, when using surnames as first names. We do that a lot in the South. My first daughter is called *Giles*, my maternal grandmother's maiden name.... and my middle name
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI would happily get in line behind Amy and Di to purchase a book made by you with all your quotes and beautiful photos.

Save a place in line for me, somebody!
ReplyDeleteI really like the artwork. And of course the poem.
"Faint not-fight on! To-morrow come the song."
ReplyDeleteI sure needed to read this today.
Oh, how I wait to hear (and sing) that song!
I couldn't get past the first two words. "Be Strong" I can't find the strength lately, so the title spoke to me! Timely, as usual Miz Boo!
ReplyDeleteI would be next in line for you book Donna!!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell we all love your words here, Donna!
ReplyDeleteIf you write it, we will buy it!
ReplyDeleteYou have the nose for good prose and the eye for the light.
A book by Miz Boo would be oh so right!
contributed with love and prayers, jep ;)
You are a doll. Thank you
DeleteI think we are here to be strong and play and dream and work hard. all of the above maltbie, all of the above. :)
