"I could never be with someone who likes Joni Mitchell. 'It's clouds illusions I recall/I really don't know clouds at all.' What does that mean? Is she a pilot? Is she taking flying lessons?"
Clouds, Love and Life....that song is now rattling around in my head. It made more sense when I was in college and had an English prof. who wanted us to "study the poetry of modern music" or it did at the time. I enjoyed my Emily Dickinson class more. Gorgeous cloud photography, so pretty I could see them in a home featured in Architectural Digest. love and prayers, jep
That song brings back wonderful memories. But yes....what DID it mean?? Your cloud photos are spectacular. When I see wonderful ones I just always say, "Thank you, God, for that treat today."
Each verse breaks one thing down: love, life, clouds. I think the clouds are in there to point out that, in her worldview, they're all elusive and transitory.
I sing this one a lot at work and it always comes off as so melancholy. I do love it, though. Sigh. Deep thought
I love pretty clouds. Sometimes I tell the kids I want to chase them. They eye roll. : )
Did I tell you my job is laying off people left and right? I am a little nervous. My best friend, Nikita got laid off last Thursday. She cried. I never saw her cry. Not through our first layoff at our first company. Not trough a terrible divorce. Not through an empty bank account. But this lay off, it made her cry. I feel like I should fly to your porch and tell you all about it : ).
ME TOO!!! THAT song always made me sad.
ReplyDeleteIm having a contest on my blog today: leave me a song you love to enter it.

ReplyDeleteDebbie Z.
I've never understood that song...at all. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've loved seeing your cloud photos coming through instagram feed. Beautiful.
I was made to sing that song in elementary school, when we all thought we didn't understand it because we were eight. I feel so affirmed today! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe also sang Send in the Clowns (horrifying), and Marching to Pretoria. What a concert.

Deep thoughts, that is. :)
DeleteThank you Stephie
DeleteIt's a very sad, melancholy backdrop to the amazing Emma Thompson and her heartbreaking scene in "Love, Actually. I tear up every time.
DeleteSusan, I agree! I get so mad at Professor Snape, I mean Colonel Brandon, I mean Alan Rickman during that scene. Just heartbreaking.
DeleteExactly!!
DeleteStephanie, I love your explanation of the song. Elusive and transitory. Very beautifully put.
DeleteDebbie Z.
Perhaps we should take a moment to discuss Alan Rickman. You know, for research.
DeleteI'm in! But it may take more than a moment. :)
Delete~sigh~
DeleteSwoon.
Deleteand what the heck's not to be obsessed about??! gorge!
ReplyDeleteThat's what Joe Fox said to Kathleen Kelly in You've Got Mail. :-)
