In the helping business.

Last year, starting in the summer, I wrote a prayer list and pasted it on the bathroom wall.
I'm sure I told this story on the blog.

I did.

Matthew's Fine

I was talking to Katie about prayer the other night.  I have had my struggles.
Right out in the open with prayer.  I think that struggle rubbed off on Katie.

She is not sure if she should ask for things.
I told her, I don't ask a lot.
But it's important to say 'thanks' and 'please forgive me'.

And then I remembered my prayer list and reminded Katie of that little list.

You see, every name on that list,
every single prayer has been answered.

In the best possible way.

Matthew will start a new job next week.  Thank you God.
Emma married a wonderful man. Thank you God.
Patrick and Shelby had a precious rainbow baby. Dottie.  Thank you God.
Katie is healthy and well. Thank you God.
Melinda worked thru her problem.  Thank you God.

Of course, I know that God is not Santa and
after Sue died, I wasn't sure that He was in the helping business at all.

But I took a little step last summer and every time I went to the bathroom I was reminded to pray and  I asked God for help for the ones I love.

They were not eloquent prayers.
They were short pleas.
If you wills
Help
Heal
Please.

A year of imperfect prayer said by an imperfect prayer.
But heard by a loving God who is apparently still in the helping business.

With Thanks and Praise.

Donna

p.s. I am full of gratitude to the faithful who have prayed for my family...I know you are out there...being the faithful angels that you are.  So thank you, too.  I love you.

  1. Such a perfect testimony for Quiet Life. What beautiful answers to bathroom prayers. (I might adopt your bathroom idea. Better than looking at the faces in the cork floor. Looking at me.)

  5. Thanks for sharing your lovely story. Anne Lamott wrote a book called "Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essentials Prayers." I really enjoyed the book and this post reminded me of it. :-)

  8. Sharing about our prayer difficulties brings more people around to try it than sharing how perfect we are. So thank you. I think your approach is real and it helps me.

  9. I am now able to sit and read this. It's wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

I'm so grateful that I can "take it to the Lord in prayer" as the old hymn says. Whether "it" is big or small. Hallelujah.

  10. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. Isaiah 65:24. Your prayer list is a great example of this verse. It gives me courage to make my own prayer list to be prayed by an imperfect prayer.

  11. Your bathroom is your own little "War Room" where you can pray for everyone. Have you watched the movie War Room? you must. We did a womens Bible Study on it. It was fabulous. God is sure Good. Wendy

  14. Sometimes we can pray and pray and ask God for the same thing over and over and our prayers never seem to be answered. I am glad you showed us that they are answered if we just pay attention and we must remember to say "thank you." Maybe they are not always answered in the way we thought they should be, but they are always answered in God's way. Thankful for your dear family that all is going well. God bless you all.
