horizontal wall boards.

This could not be more perfect.

I absolutely love this look.  I'm not sure what the official term is...but I call them slats or horizontal wall boards.  I think it gives the rooms a cottage-y, warm look.  In the top room they have just done it to one wall.  That's a good idea....just to try it out.

All of these pictures are from my pinterest pages.  The top one is from Hooked on Houses.
I continue to visit Hooked on Houses and am more often than not delighted by the pretty houses.

And just for the record.  I still love wallpaper.  I know it has come and gone out of style.
But I just love it.

What do you think of the horizontal wall boards and wall paper?

  1. Ooh, I love that, too. We are looking at different ways to cover the walls in our laundry room. I had a house full of wallpaper that clung to the drywall and ripped it when trying to remove it that I have vowed never to put wallpaper on another wall in my house. (This was all in the house when we bought it.) I did cover up wood paneling beneath wainscoting with a paintable wallpaper in my family room. I love how it gave me smooth walls there. I do love the look of wallpaper, but would probably go with stenciling patterns that's popular now so I could paint over it when I grew tired of it!

I love it! Our upstairs bedroom has walls like the top picture. No wall boards though. Except for the living room, our whole house was once covered in wall paper, but then my parents remodeled and my mom banished wall paper from the house. I don't blame her. I happen to love wall paper and would like to just do one wall somewhere. I think it's so pretty.
    Hooked on Houses....love that site.

  3. I really like the wall boards, but wall paper is not my thing. I find it so difficult to hang, and so I feel way too much pressure to get it to be the perfect choice to last a really long time. I love paint and the chance to change things up more often.

Those large red-checked curtains are my idea of perfection.

  4. Love, love, LOVE! I've hung rolls and rolls of wallpaper, but now our house has none. It's a lot of work and like Diane said, you're kinda stuck with it awhile whereas paint is easy to change.

  5. I also enjoy Hooked on Houses very much; as I recall you brought her to my attention, Miz Boo :-)

Yes to the boards, to the fun red check curtains and ... to the wallpaper. Well, in small doses. Above the boards (again in red, one of my favorite colors) is really sweet.

Ahhh these pics are so peaceful and happy.

    1. Or is it coral wallpaper? Regardless, I love the look. (The doggy is cute too!)

I LOVE the third picture, the bedroom with the pale aqua horizontal boards and the bird egg and nest art. So peaceful and serene. What a lovely place to take a nap. Our kitchen is wallpapered with a very light and airy black and white toile paper and the cabinets are painted white. I absolutely love it. Our bedroom is a taupe and white stripe paper and I have never gotten tired of it. Most of the other rooms are painted and I like the mixture of things in a home. I'm with you, Donna, I love a cottage feel- so welcoming.

  7. Oh, that third picture! Can somebody just give me a cup of tea and a book and that room, please? Heaven...

Beautiful rooms! I, too, love the cozy, cottage-y look.

Wallpaper almost put an end to our marriage in the early years. We tried remodeling our first townhome together and the wallpaper hanging truly almost did us in. It's been paint ever since. :)

What lovely room, so cozy. I really like the third one, beautiful paint color. I don't know why I am so afraid of color...we have cream painted walls and no wallpaper...I am allergic to the glue. Thanks for sharing and for introducing me to Julia at Hooked on Houses. I try to visit her every day and love the small cottages best. love and prayers, jep

  11. Love the horizontal boards but soooooo over wallpaper. Could it be because I've had to remove sooooooo much wallpaper installed by people who had NO idea that the most important aspect of putting up wallpaper is the PREPARATION of the walls? WAY too much pain in removing it when not installed correctly .... I'll chalk my aversion to wallpaper up to those experiences ;-) I'm going to have to check Hooked on Houses out. LOVE that 3rd room ... could just imagine myself there!

  12. The reclaimed barn wood on the short wall between the dining room and the kitchen was installed horizontally. It's a cheery, warm look. We love it.

  13. I love the look, it is farmhouse chic in my mind! We just did a remodel on our house and I have secret ideas of wallpapering two of the walls in our new mudroom, but I can't decided if I am brave enough to try it! Or if The Cowboy would appreciate it when he came back home (surprise)!

  14. The horizontal paneling is also called shiplap. I love it and wish it fit better into the design of my house! I too have that third photo pinned - I just love that room and the wall color!
