The Oscars Red Carpet 2017

 Hello friends!

I had a great time watching the Academy Awards last night.  I was just waiting to hate it because I thought it would be way too political.  But it wasn't.  Yay.  Jimmy Kimmel, who I don't even watch regularly was a fantastic, funny host.  His fake feud with Matt Damon is so funny and made me laugh out loud so many times.  I love when the celebs read mean tweets.  Cracks me up.

The opening song and dance was my favorite....ever. And I am not even a JT fan.  But Justin Timberlake set the tone for a fun and loose awards show.  Brilliant!!!  Plus he sang a tiny bit of one of my favorite songs of all time. (Lovely Day)

This is Kate Bosworth.  She is arriving at the Vanity Fair party....and well....
It's my favorite.

Taraiji looks stunning in this wonderful dress.  Her necklace was spectacular too.

George and Amal were not at the Oscars...haha...
but I saw this dress on the internet today and had to share it.
Amal is expecting TWINS.

Another after the show dress.  Pretty.

This is the director of Lalaland.  His lovely date is wearing one of my favorite dresses of the night!

Gamine.
Perfection.

Halle Berry.  Her dress is just perfect on her.  Interesting and pretty.
Her hair is unique.

The thing about Nicole....she takes risks.  I like her better when she dresses like this.
Not with crazy peacocks on her shoulders.

I thought Scarlett Johansen's dress was so comfy and pretty looking.
Not a fan of her hair...but Halle Berry saw her hair and said....I want mine short again...
And I thought.  yes.

Emma Stone in the perfect dress to win an Oscar in.

Here is her after party look :o)

Hallie Stienfeld.  Or something like that.  This dress was very floaty and beautiful.  It was pretty see through.  It's so pretty.

Ethereal.

Emma Roberts wearing a dress so similar to Michelle Williams...but with different textures.  I like them both very much.

Felicity Jones.  I saw this with a belt and thought it was even better that way.  But it sure is my kind of dress.

Gorgeous dress and hair and everything.

Hey Girl.
I wore ruffles just for you...
to remind you of your high school prom.

Gorgeous.  I actually like this fringy dress better than Emma's....
So pretty.

The bodice of this dress is plain...and so is the skirt....
But the volume of this skirt and it's length made it a favorite of mine.

Hello. Pretty Lady.

Do you like my choices this year?
Did you watch the show?  Did you enjoy it?
I know I left out many pretty dresses...there were so many wonderful dresses!!!

 xoxo
Donna

We watched. For the first time in years, we had watched all 9 of the best picture nominees which made it fun. I've also followed along with an ex-Cardinals, now Oakland A's pitcher, John Axford, on Twitter the past few years. He was a film major in college and usually gets about 90% on his predictions. I like your dress choices, especially the Kate Bosworth. What a dreamy color (and fabric and shape!). My favorite of the night, though, was Charlize Theron. I loved her dress, her hair, those outrageous diamond earrings. Looking back at it now, the dress is a weird color I didn't remember. Ha. Maybe the gleam from the earrings muted the color for me.

I wasn't unhappy with any of the winners, although Fences was my personal favorite for best picture and I think Denzel's performance in it slightly edged out Casey Afleck's in Manchester. Both were amazing, but I preferred Fences and Denzel.

    1. It was graphite. I'm dying to know how much those earrings cost.

  2. Would I sound to sweet and saintly and all if I say that when I think about the Oscars (which is seldom) I think "I hope Donna has a blast watching." Followed by "I get to see pretty dresses and I don't even have to go to any annoying websites where I have to 'start the slideshow.'
Kate Bosworth looks so Princess Grace-ish in your photo. And I love the drama of Halle Berry's dress. And of course it has a high neckline to make the prude me happy.

    1. Anita, I hope you watched the opening number... even a prude would find it full of joy!

Oh my goodness, what a night for dress's! I loved, loved, loved so many. My faves you haven't mentioned: Viola Davis' Red. That color looked so fantastic on her and I am not usually a fan or Red on top of the red carpet. From VF party, Catatonia Balfe is again a winner for me, old Hollywood glam, and Kate Upton's stormy blue/gray sequins was stunning.

Men's best dressed forsure Sam Heughan at VF. He was smokin hot. That is how a tux should be worn! Michael Strahan's navy blue velvet was beautiful and Ryan's ruffles were surprisingly tasteful to me. Not so 70's over the top.

Love your recaps always. Thought Jimmy was a blast and loved him bringing the tour bus by. I thought it was so funny and a perfect social commentary on how very different the regular folk are compared to Hollywood.

Oh, and I couldn't even remember what Halle wore because all I could remember was hair. I wonder if the person who sat behind her was tall! Ha!

Well, I have to agree with you, Kate Bosworth's dress is just simply wonderful. I didn't watch last night (couldn't talk my husband into it) but I was anticipating your dress review today and couldn't wait to read it. Loved your Ryan Gosling comment. And the Felicity Jones dress- so very feminine.

  5. Shelby and I wanted Gael Garcia Bernal to pronounce his co-presenter's name like he does on Mozart in the Jungle... "Hilai"

    1. That's funny! He was almost unrecognizable to me with his conservative glasses and serious hair :)

  7. Wow - Kate Bosworth's dress - the color and style were perfect! I loved the show this year! The opening number was SUCH fun and many of the speeches were so touching. Especially Viola's. And the drama at the end was unbelievable!

Thanks for the post that I always look forward to. xoxo

  9. I'm late! I liked your choices as always! The only ones I'm not a huge fan of are the Hallie Seinfeld (or whatever 😊 I don't like the strategically placed flowers on the bodice) and Scarlett Johansson's wasn't a favorite either. I don't think I saw your favorite but I love it! It reminds me of spring and proms!
