William Shakespeare

SONNET 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Last night, Emma emerged from the basement and handed me a gigantic book called Poetry in English. It was opened to
sonnet CXVI.

She wanted me to read it and then to read the five page paper she had written on the sonnet.

I stumbled thru the poem, haltingly. As I am wont to do with Shakespeare.

I marveled outloud at Emma's grasp of the sonnet and her understanding of poerty.

She confessed to staying up until 5:00 am working on it the night before.

She is not a complainer, you see. If I had been up to 5:00 am working on a paper,
everyone would know it.

Her paper was well written and I will say that I am proud of her.

I could not have done so well.

It was interesting to discuss Shakespeare's romantic, idealistic view of love with Emma.

This sonnet maintains that if love is not eternal, it is not love nor ever was.

I think love can be temporary, but that sounds kind of mean just saying it.

Shakespeare's ideal of love seems very much like God's love to me.

That perfect, unshakeable, unfailing, forever love that He has for us.

"Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:"

Do you agree with The Bard?

*******

Instead of writing long papers,
I drag my eight year old out into the street for a photoshoot.

20080310_5882It's all about the crop.
The crop is King.

20080310_5892Yes, I was squatting in the street.
I have been doing lunges so I can squat in the street to get a good shot.
It's working.

20080310_5897-3And really.
Who has time for poetry and love....I'm editing pictures.

Are you loving the longer days as much as I am???

Encourage one another,
Donna
