For those of us with school age children, summer starts when school gets out. I imagine Memorial day is the beginning of summer for everyone else. But however it begins...it's here!!!
You might find this surprising since I do not sit in the sun and get hot easily.
But I dearly love it.
I think my favorite thing is a warmish, coolish breeze...the feel and the sound.
And tomatoes.
And the bird sounds.
What do you love most about summer?
Encourage one another,
Donna
I love reading a book on my back patio. Happy summer, Donna!
ReplyDeleteSwimming in our pool after dark, when the mosquitoes are drowsy and we can watch the stars come out. 4th of July fireworks in Waupun—the best! Church picnics. Days like today. (I am NOT looking forward to 90 degress and humid by the end of the week!)
ReplyDeleteI have got to change my name from The Prude.
Swim team and Ethan's friends at the house all the time, catching fireflies, blowing bubbles, going to the beach, grilling...all the things!
ReplyDeleteLight! Honeysuckle! Fireflies! Blooming meadow flowers! Butterflies!
ReplyDeleteWarmth!
I love the images you posted! Just wonderful!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amy, I love reading outside on my balcony. Plus long days, warm evenings, and wonderful produce.
ReplyDeleteThe way the air feels, and how the flowers and smell.
And, *this* summer, being in the States for a month, visiting friends and family, and celebrating a wedding ... My daughter's!!
Really?!?! I didn't know!! Mother of the bride!! Exciting.
DeleteIt is!! I am taking a page out of your book and not stressing out about my outfit :) It will be in Oregon at Mt. Hood
DeleteCongrats, Susan, and God bless the bride and groom!! xo
DeleteWith hubby being a teacher, our summer always feels like it officially starts when he's done with school. As it has for so many years, the pace of life slows down so nioely -- even though I'm still working. Greg is a sweetheart and I never have to grocery shop or do laundry during the summer. :) Fresh tomato and cucumber sandwiches, sun tea or Summer Shandy beer, outdoor concerts, baseball games, delayed sunsets (light until 9:00 at some point!!).... It's all so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLet's see...eating dinner on the deck, light until past 8 p.m., no coats needed, windows open, hanging out laundry, fresh fruit and vegies from the farmers market, sugar free iced tea in tall glasses with lots of ice and lemon slices, and most of all: A break from school! Happy summer Donna and all the QL readers!
ReplyDeleteStrawberries and raspberries, sweet, crisp watermelon, the sound of a tractor cutting the hay in the field behind our house, morning birdsong, reading on the shady veranda porch, and the slanting golden light of evening that finishes the day in amber.

I forgot to say that one of my favorite times to take photos is in that golden summer evening light! In years past I took pictures of my kids out in the field with hay bales and in our yard sitting cross-legged with that light highlighting their sweet faces. Some of my very favorite photos.

I think the thing I love the most about summer is hearing the birds :)
ReplyDeleteI love being at our little place in Door County Wisconsin. Swinging in my hammock with a good book, amazing stargazing, campfires and s'mores, potlucks with friends, boating. I love it all!
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts indeed. Its the sunshine and the smell of barbecue, not to forget ice cream cones and laughter. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteI used to going on adventures with the kids. I loved it so much. Now, our adventures are few and far between. So, I miss the old summers. I love that court is closed, so I don't have to wrangle any kids to school every day. That is a real blessing. I love the fireflies. I love the chirping of nightfall. Walking barefoot in grass is one of my favorite things. I love it all.
ReplyDeleteI like having the kids home, late nights, strawberries, not as much running around, movies....not a fan of our weather, esp this early heat.
ReplyDeleteI always loved not having to wake the kids up early; and going to the beach!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful comments on summer! We just moved from 26 years in Ohio, to North Carolina. Closer to grandbabies. Though we have a nice front porch here, I'm sorely missing our SCREENED IN porch in Ohio. Lazy afternoons and dusk falling out on the porch, no bugs. So nice! But I'm learning to like N.C. too.
ReplyDeleteI love the warmth of summer, or at least I did till I moved to NW Washington. Hopefully that will show up sometime in the next couple of weeks.
