When Cindy was a teacher in Columbia Mo. she met the nicest young art teacher named Carrie Shryock. They became good friends. Cindy cheered as Carrie and Beth started 1canoe2...she was one of their biggest fans! Carrie and Beth have become big illustration, letterpress, stationary stars....but Carrie still kindly makes the best announcements for Cindy from time to time. This one was especially special!!

Cindy was looking for poems or verses for her wedding. I thought of some that I liked...but I knew right away that they probably wouldn't be her thing. She knows I love to pick out quotes and that is why she asked...but honestly, I was picking from my personal place...
”We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things, all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness'."

[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
(It was hearing it read in this movie that made me really like this poem.)
...for as long as we both shall live....
See...it's all so personal....
Joe: It wasn't... personal.
Kathleen: What is that supposed to mean? I am so sick of that. All that means is that it wasn't personal to you. But it was personal to me. It's *personal* to a lot of people. And what's so wrong with being personal, anyway?
Joe: Uh, nothing.
Kathleen: Whatever else anything is, it ought to begin by being personal.

And so....Cindy and Pat chose their own perfect verses and quotes....

Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
--William Shakespeare
This beautiful sonnet came to mind..but I didn't send it. I have heard it read in Sense and Sensibility many times and had no idea what they were saying. It wasn't until I heard Sarah Jessica Parker recite it in Did you heard about the Morgans that I understood it and thought it to be so lovely.
I know. Lame.
And it's so obscure it is not even on youtube. Ah well. I will cherish it alone in my pretty little head.
What is the nicest thing you have ever heard in a wedding?
Yours? Anothers?
Encourage one another,
Donna
