Be not a Dunce
The New England Primer of 1777
In which Katie thinks on these things...
or not.
Happy Tuesday!

Donna
what a fantastic list! I'm pretty sure she will NOT be a dunce :-)
ReplyDeleteThe part that seems especially important: speaking the truth and avoiding lies. Lying got two mentions! Truthfulness is a timeless virtue.
BTW, cool pic of Katie. Very retro :-)
I suspect the teacher I'm married to who would like this list as a classroom mission statement. :)
ReplyDeleteAgree with Susan about the picture -- it doesn't look as retro as 1777, but it does look cool.

Deletehi Mary Z!
I agree with the list, but I think the New England Primer needed to lighten up a bit and say "have fun, too!". : )

Did people have fun in 1777? :op
ReplyDeleteBe not a dud.
DeleteBe fun!
We were doing better in the Revolutionary War in 1777…think if we had not won, we might be our own Downton Abbey. What I really thought when I read the Primer was The Beach Boys Song…Be True to Your School. That is a fun song. :-) love and prayers, jep
ReplyDeletePS Katie pondering in black and white…really great!
jep I totally thought about that song too!!!! xxx

What an interesting word. I remember when my Mom first told it to my brother and sister and I. We laughed.
ReplyDeleteAre you getting a lot of snow today? We are having a blizzard today. Kaish is taking a nap. Gary is driving home from Philly. My Daddy is driving home from work. I hope everyone is safe.
Be not a dunce is harder than it sounds sometimes (-:
ReplyDeleteI tried out for Letter Girl with Be True to Your School. Those are some silly memories.
Lovely edit. Your "or not" made me giggle!

Di

I was thinking about this 'poem' last night. It comes from a school and it is about how to behave IN school. For a minute, I was wondering why they left out obeying your parents....but it is school specific.
