Quiet life

Tomorrow Katie will be singing at her first solo ensemble.
It's right here in our home town.
She is not worried about it.
I am not a solo singer so it would freak me out.
Did you ever do this when you were in high school?

Then on Sunday we will spring ahead and head to Lodi Wisconsin for a early morning volleyball tournament!  Yikes.
7:30 is really 6:30
So we have to leave at 6:30 which is really 5:30.

Makes my stomach upset to have to go somewhere that early.

Oh well.
It's my job.

Don't suppose they have a Starbucks in Lodi.
Naw.  Not a chance.

As you can see from the pictures,
the sun shone the other day and I was happy to take a few pictures of Katie.

Oh sunshine....
I love you.

I have been watching The Good Wife and Suits lately.
They are both shows about law firms.
I've lost interest in The Good Wife and am completely in love with Suits.

I have grown tired of Alicia Florrick.
I guess I just don't like her.

Mike and Harvey are both interesting and entertaining characters on Suits.
It's got a lighter feel like Ally McBeal and I like that.

Have you been watching these shows?
I am years behind.
Our son Patrick gave us a Firestick and we have access to tons of older shows thru Netflix and Amazon Prime now.

So that's what I'm busy doing....
Driving Miss Daisy and being her biggest fan,
cooking and knitting
and watching lawyer shows.
Oh!  and taking a few pictures when the sun shines.

How about you?

Encourage one another,
Donna

  1. Hello! This is a wonderful photo of sweet Katie!

Blessings on your early drive coming up. I have to say, I love NOT driving here in Munich.

There are no television shows in English on our cable channels, so we end up not watching anything, or watching DVDs. We just finished season two of Elementary, and I really liked it. Before that it was the 2nd season of Mr. Selfridges. Also very good!

Our clocks don't go forward til the end of the month!

    Have a good weekend :-)

  2. Good luck to Miss Katie on both her concert and tournament!! And good luck to her biggest fan as well!

My girl is coming home for spring break this evening and not leaving for Florida until Monday. I'm so looking forward to spending time with her!

  3. Good luck to Katie with her singing. I did a solo ensemble my Senior year of high school and had a ball. I don't remember being nervous -- it was just a fun little challenge to learn the music and then go convince the judges it's great. I kind of wondered why I hadn't done it every year prior! I'm sure she will do wonderfully!

We are having so much rain, it feel likes Seattle here. Sun today, finally! I'm going to try and paint a giant chalkboard for my children -- before the rain is back on Sunday!

  4. That Katie grows more beautiful all the time! Good luck on her singing -- better her than me, for sure! I used to love to watch Suits -- still really like most of the show, but (and this may sound silly) I stopped watching it because they said G. D. on every. single. episode. like it was a requirement or something, and it really just offended me. So I stopped. But I really do miss it -- interesting stories!

    1. Jana. I noticed when that started. It's not commonly used on tv is it?
      :(

We got hooked on Suits the same way! Love Mike and Harvey, and even Louis. He tries to be a good guy (sometimes), he really does. But then he gets in his own way and just can't follow through. The early seasons of that show are better than what's on now, I think.

What a sunshine girl that Katie is in your photographs. That green sweater is perfect for her skin coloring and her eyes! Good job on the light...perfect! Our eldest son was a solo performer with his choir in elementary school and they even went to the local mall to sing...be still my heart, Mama was more nervous than he was. ;-) Praying for Katie to have fun singing and playing volleyball and for you Donna to have a stress free drive and find a Starbucks along the route there, on the way out of town, something. love and prayers, jep

  7. You make me smile, always.

What a nice present, the fire stick. I wanted to get my Mom and Dad one, but Kaish thought it would be too complicated. Perhaps.

I am still up at 2:56 AM editing some head shots I did for a drama school. I am so tired I think I am going to fall asleep sitting here at the table. Kaish is up too. He isn't being the most friendly chap. He went to a party tonight with some friends from school. It was a 16th Birthday party and it was at a church hall. He said their was dancing. He also said the DJ played a song called the Electric Slide. I told him that was all the rage when I was in high school. I also told him I had never been allowed to dance to it because my Christian school didn't believe in dancing. He laughed.

The teenagers are doing me in, Miz Booshay. Seriously doing me in. Bria wants a new phone. I told her to earn money and buy one. She said every kid in her class has a better one. She said even Kaish has a better one. I explained that when she moved in after school was over last year she took over Kaishon's phone. He didn't really care since he wasn't even into phones, but when it came time to get a new one, naturally I got him a phone since she had his. She just rolled her eyes. All day long the eyes roll.

Thanks for listening to my woes.

I watch Scandal. I LOVED Stalker but I heard they are ending it. I also have recently fallen in love with a show about philly cops called Cold Case. Law and Order makes me pretty happy too. I don't like the Real Housewives any more. I think I matured.

Wishing Katie all the best in her singing and her volleyball playing. She looks beautiful in sunshine and in shadows.

I am so glad you don't have to deal with mean teenagers. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I really thought I was doing a good job when Kaish was younger....and now I don't know any more.

Sending love at 3:02 AM. Becky

    1. Becky, I know it's not much help in the moment, but hang in there with your teens. They are in a battle with themselves, trying to be independent but not knowing how. Needing you but being embarrassed to admit it. Scared that they'll have to face real life soon. And hormones going all wacky. I remember the summer I tried to hug my 16 yr old goodbye as he left on a mission trip. He pushed me away (in front of friends). I cried and cried. He's 30 now and hugs me often! We're close with all 4 of our kids, ages 25-31, and they tell us how they appreciate their upbringing. So stand firm, they won't act this awful forever! Just keep being there and loving them. (Oh, and when they have kids? Then they REALLY appreciate you!)

    2. Still so enjoy your blog, Donna. Thank you. Your Katie ... lovely girl, her sweet spirit shines! Not much going on this weekend: organizing tax info, waiting for Ohio snow to melt, and looking forward this year to TWO new grandbabies, both due in June .... AND wedding of oldest son: he just proposed a week ago to his sweet girlfriend. Yippee! Have a great weekend.

Becky, I just want to say that Barb's comment to you is spot on. She is so right. This too shall pass. I remember those years, though, and they are not always easy. We had some very trying times with one of our sons. Please just know that I will be praying for you. God loves you so much and cares about what you are going through.

      Debbie Z.

  8. You,probably saw my posts about solo ensemble last weekend. I played for 16 kids in Sauk. It was a blast. S&e was my life - MY LIFE - as a student. My school always hosted districts, so mom ran the office, and dad ran the kitchen, and I ran my tail off. I won the city medal hog award my senior year so it was worth it. Had to register under an assumed name so that I could do all the events I wanted to do. Such a music nerd. What did Katie sing? How did she do?

Becky, let's talk on the phone about teenage sons someday. I love mine with my whole heart.. But he sure can be a jerk. (Can I say that here?)

Anyway... Love to all. Home later today. All is well.

    Love,
    Steph

Donna is my favorite too! One of my favorite lines ever on a tv show was her saying, "sorry I don't have a photographic memory...my brain is too busy being awesome." I laughed so hard! My hubby and I are on season 3. We watch it when other shows are in their off-season.
