Socks on the sticks.

How's that for remarkable timing? #finishedfallsocks #happy spring

Ever since I spotted Vesper Sock yarn on Wendy's website...years and years ago....I fell in love with the colors and Julia's self striping yarn.

Knit and Tonic

I just googled Knit and Tonic and Julia Vesper and it has been ten years since I have been friends with Wendy and knitting with this pretty yarn.

Yes, I'm gonna call Wendy my friend.   Cause in my heart she is. :o)

And you guys...who read here so faithfully...
you are my friends too.

Vesper Sock Yarn. The colors make me so happy!  What do you think this color way is called?

So as soon as Spooky yarn up above was off the needles....
this pretty yarn was cast on!

Guess what it is called!?

I'll tell you tomorrow.

Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, needles, hands, and slightly below-average intelligence. Of course, superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage.~Elizabeth Zimmerman

Encourage one another,
Donna

  1. One day when I get my quilting skills a little more perfected I'm going to try the knitting. You inspire me.

  2. Whenever you have a knitting themed blog entry, I feel compelled to comment. First of all, I love, love, love the finished socks and especially your new yarn. Lovely! Name!? I don't know, but I think it is scrumptious. I just finished a pr. of St. patty's day inspired socks, also self striping, and sent them to my sister for her birthday. I am working on a plain color pr. With an intricate, but not so intricate pattern, for myself. I love knitting socks and have to have a pr. on the needles at all times. Once again, I happily remind you that it was you and Wendy's slouch hat that inspired me to revisit knitting. I haven't stopped since.
Has the snow melted? It has warmed to about 20 here in Maine. Much better than the 0 of this morning accompanied by a vicious wind. Still more than 20 degrees below normal!

  3. I don't know. I have gathered all the necessary ingredients. including scraping my intelligence in a pile at the ready, and my knitting is the textile version of Charlie Brown's teacher talking. BUT (you've heard this before) I wore the socks you made me so many years ago until they were holes held together by bungee straps of wool. And then I held onto them a but longer in case they would spontaneously regenerate. Your sock warmed the souls of my feet :)

...and that color green is so special to me. My boys favorite color has always been green. As so as he could talk, he named that shade morning green.

Pretty yarn whatever it is called. Our DIL is a knitter and makes us the best wash cloths. It was one of the first things she learned to make and when asked what I would like for a gift I always ask for them. Maybe she will learn to knit socks....I would wear those happily. ;-)
Thanks for being our friend, Dear Donna! love and prayers, jep

  8. You are "Donna, my friend in Wisconsin" :-)

I admire knitters, I find it terribly impressive.

The yarn reminds me of a Springtime sky and ground with new grass and baby leaves :-)

  10. You are all very close with the name of the yarn.
    Hint: It's one word.
Starts with a 'W' and ends with an "S".

  15. I like Wildflowers ... so if that is NOT the name I suggest we RENAME it. I am a sorry excuse in the knitting department. I so wish to master this gentle art but try and try as I might I just can't seem to relax ... I knit WAY too tightly ;-( The socks are beautiful ... I would love to knit socks, lace, sweaters ... all of it. So portable as my quilting is not .... Linda

Your knitting posts inspired me to take up the hobby. I haven't mastered socks yet and continually get frustrated when I try but these pictures make me want to try again. I love the yarn and have drooled over the selections on the website in hopes that I one day will be able to make some. Would you mind posting again the pattern you use for socks?
