American Idol. Music that touches the heart.

I just love Kree and said she would win....but.....

...last night Amber did something I've never seen done well on Idol before, she sang a Barbra Streisand song and it was wonderful.
Barbra songs make me think of Suzy.
And they make me cry.

Candice sang this song from Prince of Egypt beautifully.  I loved it.

Five ladies left on Idol. Their plan of choosing bad male singers paid off and now they will finally have a female winner.  I actually think it would have been smarter to get good guys too and then pick a male and female winner this year.
I actually think it's a brilliant idea.

Anyone?

Last night the Boston Bruins played a hockey game and the crowd stole the show by singing the Star Spangled Banner with heart and voices.

The best kind of singing don't you think?

****

Thinking of the folks in Texas this morning.  Hoping the helpers will show up for that small community.  Bless ya'll.

****

Encourage one another and sing with heart!
Donna

  4. Oh boy. The Anthem was so gorgeous and touching!! I was equally moved by Bruin's player (who is Canadian) Sean Thornton singing along.
It is so sad that we often have to have tragedy to bring out the best and beautiful in mankind!

Donna, sorry you are missing your Suzy. Music really has a way of touching our hearts and memories, doesn't it?

  6. Donna,
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers for the folks of West. I am about 30 minutes from there, grew up going there for their yummy kolaches and to go country and western dancing! It's a precious small town who is hurting greatly right now. Please join me in praying for them. There is a lot of confusion and shock around here, but as I posted on my blog post, the helpers are rallying.
    Love,
    E.

    1. It's good to read these words from somebody nearby, makes it seem more real somehow - especially from such a distance. thanks and God bless.

    2. I will try to keep y'all posted. The numbers initially predicted as deaths and injured, last night, were devastating, but thankfully, the numbers have come down. Although, too many in my book.
Donna, I hope it's okay to do this, but here's my blog, in case y'all want to follow the story...I will be posting, I'm sure, as things unfold. (My blog is kind of silly and meaningless, most days...but, not today.) www.esimmons.wordpress.com

    4. Praying here too. I have a band director friend that drove through West last night on his way home after judging a band contest. He bought gas in West at 7:33. He missed the explosion by minutes. I went to University in Abilene and my first teaching job was in Hamilton, a small town very similar to and not far from West. I will be praying for that town and those folks.

  7. I always love hearing our national anthem; even though I've seen this clip from the hockey game several times now, it still makes my heart swell.

Not watching AI so I can't speak to that, but I do love a good Streisand song :)

Love the Eskimo legend you shared in comments.

I absolutely loved Amber's rendition of "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life" last night. So beautiful, and I am a Barbra fan from way back. I still have my old LP with that song on it. I now hope Amber wins because I have loved all of her performances, not just this one. I think Kree is wonderful too. Such a talented year. I hadn't even thought about the possibility that they might have purposely not put through really good guy singers this year. As far as your hockey video, I watched it and sat here and cried. God Bless America.

  9. America Idol was fantastic last night. Those girls are wonderful singers. When I heard Amber was taking on a Barbra song, I thought, Oh dear. It was lovely. I have been rooting for Angie, but after last night, not so much anymore. Candice was good last night, but not as good as last week. Kree did fantastic on her second song. She looked lovely too in that black dress. All of these ladies seem to have good control of their voices and those who don't win, are going to be snatched up for other things.

My girls were thrilled that Mariah finally stood up to clap. And we all agreed that Nikki's dress was too much. Aren't there some kind of FCC rules that govern indecency on tv? HA! I guess Niki didn't get the memo!

The National Anthem at the game last night, was true American Patriotism. I am very proud of my home state of Massachusetts!

Prayers are going up for those in Texas who have been affected by the blast.

  11. I began watching AI in season 2. This is the first year since then that I'm not watching. I was so disappointed how they let the good male singers go. I think your idea is a good one. Plus, I can't take the judges this year. One in particular. So sad. (I am watching Candice on Hulu since she's a SC girl!)

  12. Amber's rendition of the Barbra Streisand song was just beautiful--her best this season! I don't think I could pick a winner this year. In my book the top five are fabulous.

    Praying for peace and healing.

  13. That is one of my favorite songs of Barbra's. The first time I heard it, it was played as background music on a soap opera. I ran out and bought the album the same day. It's a hauntingly beautiful album.

The Bruins. In Tears Last Night!! It was amazing!!!!

  14. Candice is still my favorite, but all the rest of those girls are great. Janelle & Angie need to mature some, Kree and Candice are ready. Amber's Streisand song was superb. She has really blossomed since the season started. I agree that Nikki's dress was awful. I noticed that most of the time the camera guys cropped her in real close to avoid the cleavage.
    That's a great hockey/audience video, I got teary too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that video of the national anthem. I only watch the news sporadically, so I miss a lot. That was really wonderful.
Love your blog. I read it regularly. You shared such wonderful things.
