Two thousand and eight.
Five years seems like forever ago.
"Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place."
~the breakfast club
We all know that something is eternal. And it ain’t houses and it ain’t names, and it ain’t earth, and it ain’t even the stars . . . everybody knows in their bones that something is eternal, and that something has to do with human beings. All the greatest people ever lived have been telling us that for five thousand years and yet you’d be surprised how people are always losing hold of it. There’s something way down deep that’s eternal about every human being.
-stage manager, in the play OUR TOWN”
"You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly—that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp."

Love everything about this post today.
ReplyDeleteI like the Our Town quote. I used the Anne Lamott quote yesterday on my blog. It was my grandmother's birthday. She's been gone seven (!) years and we still have that limp.
ReplyDeleteLovely images. Lovely qutoes. I love Anne Lamott so much. She may be my most favorite modern writer. She is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

That sweet Katie knows how to accessorize with the vintage looking sunglasses in the first picture, the teal headband in the next photo and the cute earrings in the last one. That photograph of Emma is a dream girl shot, love the black and white and Emma's eyes are beautiful as always. Our Town and Anne Lamott quotes are spot on...eternal faith and keeping our loved ones alive in our hearts where they live forever. Raindrops and beauty today. Thank you!
ReplyDeletelove and prayers, jep
Oh, Donna, thank you for that Anne Lamott quote! I'm going to share it with Mary's husband. And wouldn't you know? She was a dancer. How Providential. :-)

Donna, I just read a recent post by Anne Lamott on her facebook page, and she is quoting F.Buechner about the world, and don't be afraid!
ReplyDeleteThere is a thread being woven thru the internet, on blogs and various places, and the message I'm hearing is to take heart.
Thanks for being an encourager - and pointing us to messages that lift our eyes to what really matters.

'... the message I'm hearing is to take heart...'
DeleteI've been wrestling with what to do with my Bible study for the next 5 weeks, before we're done for the semester.. I don't remember a time when I have felt things spinning out of control in our world like I do this week... and yet.. and yet.. and yet.. I think we're going to look at 'Why do the nations rage'... because in all of it, God is sovereign, and loving, and good. And the key is to LEAN IN. and TAKE HEART.
Thanks for the final push of encouragement that I needed, Swiss Miss. The message I will GIVE OUT is to take heart.
onward!
Stephie

DeleteA verse is in my head : ˝be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
I need to lean, too.
Love all of it. We need photos and words such as these today...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna
Okay, when spam starts talking about menopause weight gain, it starts to feel just a wee bit personal (-:
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, your girls are darling. Each picture is my favorite, until I look at the next one! Katie sure has grown up!
I think I need to get a hold of Our Town and give it a good read. I keep seeing great quotes from that play.
Love to you all,
Di
I like your spam much better than what mine has been lately, Di.......ugh!

ReplyDeleteFive years seems so short and yet so much has happened in my own life in that brief time. I wonder what five years from now will look like.....

P.S. When, oh when, is spring coming, Donna???????
Hi Donna -
ReplyDeleteI know this isn't the best way to reach you, but I wanted to give you a heart-felt thanks for all of your amazing photography tips on PW. For the last week or so I've been teaching myself the ins and outs of a borrowed DSLR camera that I'll be using to take pictures of a bugdet-tight bride to be. I have a good eye, but that's about it. I'm completely overwhelmed and out of my league. I've spent hours reading your posts, reviewing my manual, then practicing - practicing - practicing. I wanted you to know how grateful I am for all the tips and information that you've shared.
Every time I read, "encourage one another", I feel as if you are cheering me on.
Thanks again!
Love, Tiffany in Utah
LOVE reading this - yay Miz Booshay :-)
