When I was in college my favorite albums were Fleetwood Mac and Donna Summers and A Star is Born with Barbra and Kris and JT (James Taylor). I have never been a big fan of James' popular songs. I like his unpopular songs.
Here are two from the album JT.
This is my favorite kind of guitar playing.
And when he sings 'I don't know if I told you but you hold my heart in your hand. And I found out something about you, baby without you, I'm a lonely man." I melt at the beauty of it.
I am going to Omaha for the weekend. I will be watching Asher and Malachi while Matthew and Melinda go somewhere to celebrate Melinda's 30th birthday. I am so looking forward to spending lots of time with the boys: looking into their eyes and kissing them and getting to know them a little better.
Have a lovely October weekend!
Encourage one another,
Donna
Not a huge James Taylor fan....got stuck on a long car ride with a huge fan and was forced to listen to him sing for about 10 hours straight. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Omaha with the boys. You will have a wonderful time...enjoy every minute.
Oh Amy. That is too funny. How about a little Donna Summer?
DeleteA famous car trip to Oregon ruined Owl City for me. Ugh.
DeleteDi
I like Owl City, but I'd like that sweet boy better if he just had a good cry. He sounds so upset all the time!
DeleteSecret of Life is a forever fave. Love JT so much. One of the most consistent artists of our time - the guy never misses a note or a beat and sounds phenomenal live. I love this kind do songwriting.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the boys!! Blessed yaya.
p.s. James Taylor was at my brother's third wedding. I missed that one. :o(
Deletedonna i lol-ed.
DeleteI was a huge fan of his brother Livingston Taylor, and Aztec Two Step... Oh my, such great memories!!!

PS, JT's "unpopular" were always my favorite, too!!! xo
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
ReplyDelete"Secret of Life" is a perfect happy birthday to me song, thank you for sharing.
I love Secret of Life. We are big JT fans.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had a JT wedding - really. She walked down the aisle to Natural Woman. We have an awesome friend in Illinois who can belt out songs like no other and she really did a fab job. And during the ceremony, she sang "up on the roof" - another favorite of my daughter and son in law. But 7 years later I cannot remember what they walked up the aisle to. Der.
Have a wonderful weekend. O the joy of looking long and lovingly at those sweet faces. xxx
oops, a day later and I realize I should have said: James Taylor/Carole King wedding.
Delete(sadly we didn't have live music before the ceremony, so instead of we were treated to James Taylor's greatest hits via CD before hand).
My girls were thrilled out of their minds to attend together the JT/CK tour that stopped in Chicago. And yes, they were some of the youngest in the theater :-)
Have a blessed weekend with your adorable Boucher grandsons, Donna!
ReplyDeleteSarah P. from Iowa
Up on the Roof is one of my faves. The Carol King/ JT reunion album is one of my all time favorite albums.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Melinda. Have a great time being yaya (dd you know that autocorrects to Hagar???)
Love,
Di
Di!!!!! Roaring!!!
DeleteI'm wondering if you have this cute little book *It's Time to Sleep* - I like the poet (eric metaxes), the illustrator (nancy tillman), and the singer (sally taylor!) Within my post is a link for a free download ;-) And yes ~ have a great time #grandmothering

Praying for travel mercy's for you---going and coming home. Nothing like being a grandma. Have a good time and I can't wait to see the pics when you get home. This is a GREAT idea for the young couple. Keep LOVE alive !!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way. I was always sad when my favorite songs didn't get released. I
ReplyDeletehave JT's Classic Songs album. I haven't pulled out my old LP's in quite a while. I almost wore a hole through the vinyl of my A Star is Born soundtrack. I still know every word to every song on that one. That was the saddest movie. Have a great weekend!
Have a wonderful weekend, Donna. Being with the grandkids is the best!
ReplyDeleteDonna,
ReplyDeleteYou turned me on to "Secret O' Life" on your blog a while back. I'd never heard of it before. I feel the same way about Cat Stevens and his greatest hits that you feel about JT's songs. I like the less popular Cat Stevens songs way more: King of Trees, If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out, etc..

Have fun with your grandboys. I don't know about others - but I am finding so much joy in my little one. This last week has been so painful - losing my dad so soon, and then his only sibling sustaining a non-recoverable brain injury when she was leaving to come for the service. It is so healing today having my grandson here with me, and being able to hold him and snuggle with him and hear his joyful laugh. It's been a reminder of God's mercy and grace. Praying those blessings are yours this week!
ReplyDeleteOh, Jody. Holding you in prayer tonight!
DeletePrayers for you, Jody.
DeleteMary Z
Thank y'all for the prayers - my aunt is drinking coffee in heaven with her brother this morning. She passed away last night (exactly one week after my dad died) with her family surrounding her.
Deleteoh i am a huge JT fan - something in the way she moves is just so lovely. how about blossom? that voice is amazing. he has done a duet or two with the zac brown band and it totally works. i even love his funky stuff (bartenders blues, steamroller blues). thanks for reminding me of the rich goodness of his voice. i believe i may even have some songs by his brother livingston on a cd.
ReplyDeletehave fun! We recently saw Ben Taylor, Jame's son play at a local bar. HE was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI like JT any way: popular or unpopular. Amy, this might be the mirror image of your story: we were on a road trip with a twenty-something guy we just met (giving him a ride to a wedding in Sacramento).
ReplyDelete[ugh, didn't finish comment!] Road trip with this guy who hadn't HEARD of James Taylor. I think we played two CDs so he would get a taste. That was after we listened to his screeching heavy metal, haha! Carol in Oregon
ReplyDeleteYou are the best Yaya, ever! Safe travels. Happy Birthday, Melinda. I hope they have fun and relax. It is her day.
ReplyDeleteDear Friend, Praying God will bless you in your travels and as you enjoy being with your precious grandsons. And, also praying He will bless Melinda in her 30th year with great joy in all she does.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the JT songs. Takes me back to our Carolina days where he is known as "Sweet Baby James" to all who live there. Home town boy does well...and the gentle notes of the unpopular songs are heard as often as the popular ones. Good memories for our family.
love and prayers, jep
Jep, my Jamey was "sweet baby James" to us until he was no longer a baby. We sang and sang that to him. :)
DeleteDonna, have a fab weekend with the little ones! And happy birthday to Melinda!! :)

DeleteHuge JT fan, have seen him once solo and once with Carole King, sigh. I adored listening to the Secret of Life today. Enjoy those little ones. I think I may be a long distance grandma someday, and I will enjoy the ride.
DeleteAh Mary, my dad's name is James, so I have a daughter's love for that name. And, I have a great friend who goes by Jamey...another sweet and special name. jep
DeleteDonna, thanks for reminding me of how much I love James Taylor. I will have to get my CDs out. I don't think I had ever heard Secret of Life before. Love it. His voice transports me back to being a young newlywed. A couple of my faves: Something In The Way She Moves and Country Road. Like Anonymous above, I also love Steamroller Blues. Have a wonderful weekend with your cute grandsons. You are such a good grandma to travel so far to be with them. How long does it take to get from Wisconsin to Nebraska?
ReplyDeleteDebbie Z.
Thank you. It takes 7 hours with a 1/2 hour pit stop.
DeleteI've seen fire and I've seen rain. I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end.
ReplyDeleteI've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought that I'd see you again.
Love "the secret of life" !!! And every.single.other.song.
ReplyDeleteI especially love "sweet baby james". ;)
Did you know he appears on a new Amy Grant song. It's beautiful I read that as she was recording it she thought that she heard/needed James T so she wrote him and asked if he'd do it. He said yes. http://youtu.be/OfGvXfe9LK8
Dear Janet, Thank you for posting this youtube song...I needed to hear that song and be reminded. Great story about how she "heard/needed" JT. He added just the right balance/sound. God bless you and yours. love and prayers, jep
DeleteI'm glad it was a blessing to you jep. Love to you. :)
DeleteI have that new Amy Grant CD and LOVE the song that JT sings along with. It has a very important message.
Deletemy absolute favorite, Donna! I have seen him many times in concert...
ReplyDeleteLove his lyrics, and his music.
Hope Omaha is proving a wonderful time for all!
