Super Fun Time: Chicago: Thanksgiving
On Wednesday Katie and I drove to Chicago to take in a few fun Thanksgiving and Christmas events.
Wednesday afternoon we headed to the Christkindlemarket on Daley plaza. Emma has gone to this the last few years because it is right outside of the law office she works at. She sees the tree go up and the little huts erected. She likes to get a boot cup to drink hot chocolate out of and buy a bag of spiced nuts.
We found a nice parking spot near the plaza. This made me happy. It cost 13$ for two hours. That may be the most I have ever paid at a meter. But that was okay. It was worth it.
I love this Picasso. I mean come on. It's Picasso.
The artist never said what it was. He did however have an afghan dog and I think this is what it is.
This is a iphone blooper. I love it.
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
~Goethe
A little German quote for a German market.
It was pretty and festive and fun to be together.
The next morning we got up and went to the parade. I'll show you a few of those pictures tomorrow.
Have a lovely day!
Encourage one another,
Donna

beautiful pictures, beautiful girls. But, why do both your daughters have hats on, obviously knitted by you, and you have nothing on your head??? :)
ReplyDeleteKris Irving Schwarz
Kris, I hate to wear hats!!!
ReplyDeleteDonna, I do too! I never have been a hat wearer.
DeleteI can do a sweatshirt hood for a while, but not a hat. Good to know I am in fine company! Carol, I also wondered why Donna was not in a hat. ;-) jep
DeleteI love big cities around the holidays! So festive and fun! I am curious about the boot cup...is that an actual boot, or am I just super naive?
ReplyDeleteIf it's like the Christmas markets I've gone to, it's a Santa Clause shaped mug :-)
DeleteI like to get the ordinary mug with ... Gluhwein! (Mulled Wine! yummmm!)
er, Santa's BOOT shape, that is! I got excited thinking about the wine :-P
DeleteIt is a glass boot mug/cup that comes with mulled wine or hot cocoa. EXCEPT they changed it this year! just a regular old mug. I asked one of the guys working the booth last night what people thought of the change, he said... "everybody hates it"
Deletea normal shape mug just doesn't compare to a boot shape
No Santa's boots? what a shame. My daughter who lives downtown has a boot shaped mug of her own from the Christmas Market in Chicago. Maybe it will be a collector's item now ;-)
DeleteI want to go to Chicago even more now! That's it. I am going in 2014!! : P
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a great time. The pictures are fantastic. The pretty bokeh!! You are such a fun loving mom, Donna. What a precious gift to give to your kids.
Goethe is a wise person. Love that.
Happy Tuesday,
Sarah P. from Iowa
Sarah P in Chicago? It would be wonderful!! :)
DeleteMary Z
LOVE the bokeh!!
ReplyDeleteI learned to wear a hat since moving here - it's a must when walking around. I had to get over my fear of hat-hair.
Goethe has left his mark all over Zurich - especially signs on places where he slept, ate, hung out. Sarah P is right, he's a wise fellow :-)
Can't wait to see more!! Makes me miss Chicago a bunch.
Donna, these pics are breathtaking!! I can nearly feel the crisp air by just looking at them! I love your phone's blooper, too. That's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteTree light bokeh magnificence! Looks like so much fun. If only I liked beer.
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love that quote, and your iphone Blooper! Having a smiling day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great expression, "Have a smiling day!"
DeleteSmiles are an expression of caring and love we can give away for free every day.
Thanks Bri…good reminder! jep
Such wonderful pictures. I love the one 2nd from the bottom where the Chicago theater sign is visible. Great capture!
ReplyDeleteWe love that Christkindlemarket. Last year one of Molly's friends hopped up on a bench and shouted "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear!" Before you knew it, Moll said there was a whole group singing "You better watch out....." together. A crowd of festive people can make things happen. :)

Mary, that is a great story!

Donna, I have never liked hats, either. My mother never forced me to wear one when I was a kid, and I still thank her for that. Enjoyed following your visit through your photos. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like your scarves Boucher ladies, snazzy!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like an Afghan dog.
And, wise words, beautiful photographs, Christmas lights in the Big Windy City…were you singing "Oh, I just got back from the Windy City" on your way home? I think that was Annie Get Your Gun…maybe. Thank you for taking us along! love and prayers, jep
Such cute pictures of you guys by the big tree .Last year Fireman and I went to the market for the first time and we loved it. It was bitter cold out though!!! Christmas time is HERE
ReplyDeleteYour blooper is impressionistic perfection! I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Sarah P, can I come to Chicago with you? It's at the top of my wish list.
Happy Tuesday,
Di
Oh, you are making me SO excited for our trip to Chicago! We'll arrive the Saturday after Christmas. It will so good to be HOME. The Market is always a favorite of ours. (And I too adore the Picasso.)
ReplyDeletelove this!! What an amazing time you must have had!!!
ReplyDeleteI so love those pictures in front of the tree. Most colorful bokeh, ever. Looks like you had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of you and the girls.
ReplyDeleteHuh! That Goethe quote - the reason I stop by every day before I start work! :) Thank you Miz Boo! - Lori K
ReplyDeleteI love this picture of your blog and the girls.
