Club Volleyball

Volleyball begins #club #ott

Club Volleyball season has started.  Katie plays on a team called OTT for Over the top.  They had their first tournament last Sunday.  Katie plays to improve her skills and for the love of the game.  (For those of you who do not know about volleyball nowadays....it is highly competitive.  At a local middle school eighty girls tried out for the 8th grade team!)  Katie is playing very well at the setter position this year.  Playing beach volleyball last summer really helped her see the court better.  We picked this small club for one main reason; the coaches.  Morgan and Maria are both former University of Wisconsin volleyball players and they are great with the girls.  They are both really lovely women and I am very thankful for them.  The girls like them a lot too!

Her middle name is Grace.

We do not have a tournament this weekend so we will be watching football.

Duracell Trust Your Power commercial.

Derrick reads lips and speaks very well doesn't he?
He is very well respected on his team.
So inspirational.

Go Derrick!

Who? Littleboo. #messeduphair

The other night Katie was flinging her hair around and I wanted to style it like this.  She didn't want me to, but I have always wanted her to wear her hair with the bangs down.

So the picture turned out really pretty and it got many wonderful comments on Instagram and FB.  But she is still not persuaded to wear it like this.

What more can I do?
She has a mind of her own.

And in the weather dept.....

The more it snows ~~
tiddely pom,
The more it goes ~~
tiddely pom,
The more it goes ~~

On snowing ~~
And nobody knows~~
tiddely pom ,
How cold my toes ~~
tiddely pom,
Are growing.

Happy Weekending!

  1. I love that video. And many of the Seahawks guys are inspiring. But this weekend, as every weekend, I bleed red and gold.

I love your pics from volleyball...those LONG legs, the group shot sings HAPPY TEAM, and Katie looks like a ballet dancer in volleyball gear.

My Claire and I have regular "discussions" about hairstyles. She really has a mind of her own. As it should be. Saturday she is going to a homeschool dance with the theme, "Red Carpet Night." I wonder what she'll come up with for that! No Cleveland...note the "homeschool" part of the event (-:

    Happy Friday.

    Love,
    Di

  2. What a powerful commercial. Thanks for posting it, this is the kind of stuff I don't get to see.

I am glad for Katie that she has this great club to be a part of, with wonderful coaches. Awesome.

Swiss Miss signing off, except to add: no snow in Zurich! None this winter so far! I think I need to go up into the mountains and see some. I kinda miss it. (she says sheepishly).

A.A. Milne is a favorite, as is that particular poem.
Katie looks beautiful no matter how she wears her hair. It is a magazine worthy photograph!
Derrick Cole, what an inspiring story…Never, never give up! We use those batteries, too.
Club Volleyball…ballet on the court. love and prayers, jep

  4. I agree - her hair is really cute that way; it accentuates her eyes. Speaking as a nearly-33-year-old, I sometimes wish I'd listened to my Mom's advice growing up in relation to hair and clothes. Such is life - she's going to do her own thing and make her own way.
Keep on doing what you're doing - it's obvious you have such a wonderful relationship with her; bangs down, or not! ;)

    3. I think she looks beautiful both ways. I am thankful that she has a point of view of her own. The only thing she needs to hear is that she looks fab.

    4. I tots agree, Donna. I was nodding and agreeing about your relationship. (well, and she does look cute with her hair that way). But you are right - it's good to have an opinion, and she does indeed look cute both ways.

She looks fab and she has a sweet heart. That is plain to see. xxx

    5. Agreed. All of the comments here are exactly what she needs to hear - she's beautiful, she's beloved. What else is there? :)

Thanks for sharing the video! So glad Katie is having fun and improving with her team. Good coaches are worth their weight in gold for sure. Katie has setter swag in that photo. :) Lastly, A.A. Milne never disappoints.

  6. I LOVE her hair that way BUT I always left my children to style their own hair their own way…and I SHHHHHhsd up about it. It was one of my cardinal rules. THey dressed as they wished, they did their hair as they wished…
I came from a very critical home and I wanted my kids to workout their own styles…..

    1. Very important, Kathy! My mother always said I looked great. There were times I wish she had told me what she really thought, but I had a sister for that (-: I am REALLY glad now that Mom wasn't a critic.

Unless I had a bunch of wrinkles, of course. She was an ironing zealot. No wrinkles was her one rule.

And in the 70s, that must have been incredibly challenging for a classic, tailored woman.

    2. My Mom & Dad always told me I looked wonderful. Even when I was a 10 year old beanpole with a pixie haircut and geeky glasses. Bless their hearts, they lost a little credibility with me during that phase :-) But I knew they meant it. <3

Love the bangs! So soft and feminine , but sounds like you're not going to win this one!

  8. The bangs accentuate her gorgeous peepers! JMHO, of course.

  9. I love her hair styled that way. DO IT, KATIE!...says a total stranger : ) Anyhow, the Tiddely Pom poem I recognized from a book of children's poetry my mom found at a garage sale...there are a few I love, most don't move me in any way, and this one I remember thinking, as I do with a lot of poetry, "Huh?" Tiddely pom...I think I will scrapbook the ones I love, such as Hushabye My Darling, which always reminds me of my first newborn and our first days together.
