loud, louder, loudest

Mom says take the bus home.

We headed down to Chicago to try once again to catch the Air Show.
Fortunately Saturday was sunny and the jets could fly.  We saw a plane we have not seen in person before, it is called the F-22 Raptor.  The Raptor is so big and loud and remarkable it kind of out shadows the Blue Angels.  And those of you who know me...this is saying a lot.

The Raptor can do things I have never seen a plane do.  It was frightening and thrilling and fantastic to watch it fly.

And then the Raptor flew around with a B-51 Mustang...

B-51 Cadillac of the Sky!
I have a special cinematic love affair with the Mustang.

This video is quite long... just watch the first few minutes so you can see how cool this jet is.

On Friday Katie and I took some pictures at the sunflower field.  The flowers were a flop.
Katie was not :o)

  1. We had the Blue Angels and the Raptor at the Cherry Festival in Traverse City this year ~ after an absence of a couple of years. They are AWESOME. You think they are cool to watch and then you FEEL the power as they zoom overhead and downward. I could watch them ALL day!!

Katie is NEVER a flop! She brings the sunshine every time :-)

I'm not a big fan of the loud air shows - but I'm THRILLED for you Donna - what fun. Especially after the disappointment of before.

It's good to be home - I love exploring and seeing new places - but home is good.

We took a train through our corner of Germany, down into Austria and then over into Italy, into the Sudtirol (South Tyrol region) to Merano. It was beautiful. Lush, green, lots of flowers and a bajillion different trees (slight exaggeration) ... most of all it is always good for my hubby to have a bit of a break. I missed the QLCS! This lovely corner of the world.

Thank you, Donna, for blogging - just have to say it every once in awhile. thanks!!

    1. It's the music :o) It's an extremely emotional scene. Makes me cry every time. He sings right before this...too. It's the best ten minutes in film making IMHO.

I've never been to an air show. Our good friend, Van is a fighter pilot. He also sprays crops during the summer from his little yellow plane. He sprayed some of our fields this year. One morning I was getting Sophia out of the bathtub and all of a sudden our house shook and this really loud noise came out of nowhere. What the heck?! It was Van. He had flown right over our house....on purpose. It's always fun to watch him.

  6. Yes! Some day you should go to Ofut Airforce base in Omaha. They always have a good show! It can be hard on little ones but bring a blanket, treats and ear plugs. I have a friend with a farm in Missouri and I have heard stories of her mom weeding in the garden and the Stealth bomber flying right over her. I guess it's based down there! That would make my day :o)

  8. What makes me cry and what doesn't make me cry would make a fascinating scientific study, Emma. I totally get the "no apparent reason" for crying!

Great pictures. Love all the sun-kissed colors in Katie's summer do!

Happy Monday. I am ready for bed (it is 4:45...is that too early?) It's bedtime somewhere, right?

    Love,

Young Christian Bale is phenomenal in Empire of the Sun. I love that scene, but totally understand why it brought Emma to tears. Been there. :)

Beautiful pictures and glad you enjoyed the air show! Molly and friends were at North Ave Beach on Friday and saw a lot of the "rehearsal" for the air show. She said it was great!

Glad you got to see the air show. I am lucky enough to live near 3 active bases and get to see F-22's along with F-35's and Ospreys fly frequently; they are an awesome sight to see!
