Hello Fall. You're kind of early, aren't you?
Or on Sept 10th.
Yeah. It's 49º right now.
The leaves are still green as are my tomatoes.
I will still choose joy because being bummed by how things should be is
really a bad way to go.
So many things we don't have any control over.
So on a cold September day I will not fret.
I will let it go.
I'll drop that expectation in the river and watch it float away.
And I will think of Elisabeth Elliot and Amy Carmichael and remember the phrase that has come to mean so much to me.
"In acceptance lieth peace."
Do you all give yourselves pep talks?
I do it constantly.
Encourage one another,
Donna

I do... always.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, my friend.
After reading "In acceptance lieth peace" in the past on your blog, I wrote it on a sticky note that was on my computer for a long time. Thank you. It helped me get through some deep waters. Lovely post today. You are so right.
ReplyDeleteDebbie Z.
Yes I do, and I quote the psalms to myself. "Why are you downcast, o my soul? Put your hope in God." :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember that time passes quickly, and before I know it, spring will be here.
I also hope for Indian Summer :-)
All the time, Miz Boo.
ReplyDeleteBesides the popular song, "let it go" seems to be the theme for me for 2014.

I really like that phrase, "in acceptance lieth peace". I believe I will use that as my new mantra. I'll let you know how it's working. Thank you as always for your insight!
ReplyDeleteThe more I am at home alone, the more I am doing these pep talks out loud. And then I realize that someone is actually home with me... and that I am becoming That Lady Who Talks To Herself. But I need a lot of pepping. Not when it gets cold, but when it is brown and dusty and rain is no where in sight. Those are my pep talk days. I hope and pray those days will end soon. We really need rain.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry it is time for your uber-cool (warm (-:) socks. I know you haven't seen enough of summer yet. All I can say is, COME WEST.
Hugs to you, kindred spirit.
Love,
Di
Yes, I do, but I like yours much better. I'm usually beating myself up over something.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am golfing I tell myself to just sink this putt, or hit this drive in the fairway all the time
ReplyDelete49*! Send it down here to Alabama please. But just a little bit. I just want to wear a sweater and drink coffee without ice...I'm not ready for really cold.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna!
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time (2009 maybe) you talked about a company you like for large canvas prints. I think it might be simply color lab? I am gathering some information for a project and wonder who you recommend. Thanks!
I'm constantly talking to myself and saying things that are a bit critical and I need to change to the pep talk instead. Thanks for the reminder. : )
ReplyDeleteBTW: We could use some of your weather here. Currently just under 100 degrees and it will be that or hotter until, oh, December, probably. (Just kidding, but it's terrible and there's no rain in sight.) I guess the grass is always greener . . .
Hi Dana, simply color is a pro service. Mpix.com makes canvases too. I would trust them.
ReplyDeletethanks! PS no signs of Fall around here - September is a hot month ;-)
DeleteYes, I do pep talks, too! "In acceptance lieth peace" is one of my favorite pieces of wisdom from Amy Carmichael. And I needed that as a reminder today -- thank you :)

Home from the cooler clime of Colorado and missing the mountains so very much. It was joy to visit with our eldest and his wife. I missed all of you and prayed for you daily on early morning prayer walks in the 12 blocks of historic downtown Salida. If you ever go there, be sure and stay in The Palace Hotel. Hubby did loads of fly fishing...we had fresh trout he caught for lunch twice. Our suite had a full kitchen for our use...no restaurant can cook for sensitive stomach of mine. Pep talks are second nature...from St. Teresa's Bookmark, "Patient endurance attains all things." love and prayers, jep
ReplyDeleteJep, after reading your comment I had to look up the Palace Hotel. It looks so charming! I may never make it to Colorado but I love keeping a list of recommended places to stay, just in case the opportunity to travel comes along! It looks just like my kind of place since I love antiques and historic ambiance.

I missed you jep! Colorado is beautiful, sounds like a great getaway :-)
DeleteI missed you too Jep!!!
DeleteJep, knowing that you prayed for all of us on your morning walks almost brings me to tears. Bless you!!

Man did I need this post today.............perfect timing Donna. :) Karen F.
ReplyDeleteWe got two inches of snow last night...I am killing the pain by hitting the kitchen and baking and cooking up a storm. Having neighbors over for a cozy home cooked meal is the best fix for dreary weather :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You rock! I just started a pot of chicken noodle soup. That crock pot puts off a lot of nice heat...all day long.
DeleteYou know, I don't mind the cold. I really don't. I love a chilly September and October, because the leaves are perfect and we get glorious sunshine with a kind of blue in the sky that only happens then. But after that, when November [purgatory] hits, it starts to be WET and cold. I do NOT do well with wet and cold. Rain in the 40's.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's what we have today, isn't it, Donna.
Living in November today. And having several chances to intersect with and serve folks today because it's National Music in Nursing Homes week [or something like that!] and I'm singing at two of them today before I head to work tonight. I have a feeling that come 2:00, the rain won't be bothering me anymore. :)
Thanks for helping me with my attitude, Donna!
"In acceptance lieth peace." is on a post-in on the bottom of my computer screen. It's come in very handy!
