Hi friends,
Emma said I could share a little more of what is going on.
In the last ten days Emma has had two seizures. Both of them included
ambulance rides to Emergency Rooms.
The first seizure was a shock as we had absolutely NO IDEA why this was happening.
She had it on the bus coming home and landed in Beloit Memorial Hospital for a few hours.
They did a cat scan and that looked clear.
The following day Emma had an EEG and it appears on first look that she has something called
Juvenile Absence Epilepsy.
But she was put on medicine and we thought...well...that was just a one time thing...
her absence seizures were so mild we did not even know she was having a seizure.
So she went back to Chicago.
Getting in to a neurologist is pretty impossible and nobody seems as concerned about this as we do...so I came back to Wis.
Then exactly on week later she had another. It was even more of a shock....and very hard on me as Emma was in Chicago.
Thankfully I had been in touch, just that day with my friend kathyb 'from the comments.'
Kathy lives close to the city and is a nurse.
She and her husband rushed to the hospital to be with Emma until I could get there.
What a comfort to know that Emma was not alone and with kind, loving friends.
I am thankful God gave us kathyb and her Fireman.
They released Emma that night saying she was good to go.
So I am sticking close to Em until she sees a neurologist tomorrow in Chicago.
She is taking off this week of work and classes and internship.
Yesterday she felt like running.
So I drove the car behind her.
We are hoping and praying she does well with the medicine and that her seizures can be controlled without much fuss.
We really don't know much and we are looking forward to meeting with a neruologist.
Please pray for Emma.
With love,
Donna
Praying in Alabama for Emma (and those who love her so)!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this must have been very scary for all of you! Praying for Emma and your whole family! I've been repeating this verse over and over in the last couple weeks. It seems so many people are needing prayer lately...
ReplyDelete"This is my command -- be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
God Bless!
How scary for you all. I will pray for Emma and you all, dear Donna.

ReplyDeleteMuch love to Emma and to you. I am so glad you are sticking close. Praying for you to have the answers you need.
ReplyDeleteI will be praying each and every day.
Hugs,

The unknown is scary. But faith is being sure of what we hope for. (Hebrews 11) Prayers for Emma to be correctly diagnosed and treated, if called for. And for all of you to feel the comfort and peace only God can provide! I'm with Julie, Joshua 1:9!
ReplyDeleteJust stopped here at work and said a prayer for Emma, for you, and for your whole family as I'm sure you are all concerned. When I had a neuro situation about 10 years ago, my friend shared 1 Peter 5:7 with me, 'Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you'. Was, and still is, so reassuring...
ReplyDeleteWill keep you close in prayer, Donna.
Prayers for Emma and for your and your family. Such a scary time but its so nice to have Jesus to give those worries to.
ReplyDeletePrayers for Emma! I have a son (he's three) who was born with kidney disease and I know from experience that there is nothing harder in this world than feeling helpless where your child is concerned. Everything will be ok. Hugs to you all. :) -- Jamie
ReplyDeleteDefinitely in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteMelanie M
My prayers are all yours and Emma's.
ReplyDeleteI wish for you an abundance of strength when you need it most. xo
Praying!
ReplyDeleteI commented before on my Kindle, now sitting at my laptop and the verse popped into my head:
ReplyDelete"Perfect Love casts out fear."
Now I have to look it up and see if I'm remembering it right ...
I John 4:18 - "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear."
I am praying that the Love of God will keep you all from fear and anxiety. That the Lord will encourage your hearts.
~ Susan (on her laptop, without her little photo)
Praying: "Dear Almighty God, we entrust Emma to Thy never-failing care and love. Please guide and direct the doctor and nurses to help her to regain good health. And, give Emma and her family Your peace that passes all understanding. Amen"

ReplyDeleteOh, Donna, I had no idea! And me emailing you about piddly things while you were concerned about your Emma. I am praying for Emma, for you, for the doctors and tests. Praising the Lord that you are able to be with her until her neurologist appointment.

Praying for you, asking God to lead the way through this unexpected journey. Love and hugs, dear Donna, Carol
ReplyDeleteOh, how frightening for both of you! Blessings for healing, strength, and grace as you move through this.
ReplyDeletePraying this for you and Emma:
ReplyDelete"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
this is my very favorite verse :-)
DeleteAmen!

Dear Donna & Emma: I will add you to my prayers.
ReplyDeletePrayers for Emma and for you! How scary to be separated when it happened the second time. Getting in to see a neurologist is ridiculously, stupidly hard...prayers for that too.
ReplyDeleteLots of love and prayers. xxoo
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you drove behind her while she jogged. <3 And who looks THAT beautiful in a beanie?? Jogging?? #emma
You are an amazing, supportive and loving Mom, Donna.
those were my 2 thoughts as well...naturally...sending lots of prayers to everyone
DeleteDonna...you are very blessed to have a friend like kathyb and a community that prays for you and your family, but I don't need to tell you that. While Im not in the Chicago area, I am able to join the circle of friends who will be faithfully praying...for healing, for the doctors to give the right diagnosis and treatment, for peace and comfort as you wait to see the neurologist and for you and your family to be lifted up each and every day. As a cancer fighter, I can tell you there has been nothing as powerful as the prayers that have been lifted up for me especially at those time when I can't find the strength to pray. I have literally felt them when I needed them most. God bless you! Debra
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and your family... epilepsy is very scary and also very common. I think around 10% of the population has it, but no one ever says "HI I'm Sally & I take meds to control my epilepsy". I think that is why doctors & nurses don't seem to be as freaked out as parents. =) Good to see the EEG led to a diagnosis, hopefully they can figure out meds to control the seizures. I'll be praying for all of you.

Donna, Thanks for sharing. Emma and your family are in my prayers. Perhaps you should take up jogging? I can picture you driving behind Emma and it makes me smile :).
ReplyDeletepraying for you and Emma, and for answers tomorrow. Thankful for your friends in Chicago -- I can't imagine what you were going through.
ReplyDeletePraying for Emma and her family too.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this. My sister-in-law has epilepsy that is controlled by medication. Hope they find out what is wrong quickly and can help her.
ReplyDeletePutting Emma on my prayer list and will pray daily.
ReplyDeleteMay the peace that passes all understanding be with Emma and family.
In Christ,
Deb in AZ
Praying for your Emma, who feels almost like "our" Emma as well. God's comfort for you all in this time of wait. xo melzie
ReplyDeleteWe will certainly be praying for dear Emma!
ReplyDeletePraying!
ReplyDeleteI have an Emma in my life going through the same thing. She will be 4 in December and had a seizure on October 1 while riding in the car, strapped in her car seat. After numerous tests, including an MRI, it has been determined that she has epilepsy. All tests indicate that the seizure on the 1st was not her first. Fortunately a lot of children grow out of it. She has to be on anti-seizure medication for 2 years after her most recent seizure so the clock starts over if she has any more. I will pray for your Emma.
ReplyDeleteDear Tami,
DeleteI will pray for your Emma too.
God bless.
Adding my prayers for little Emma
DeletePraying for little Emma, too

Praying for all of you.
ReplyDelete(((((Donna))))) (((((Emma))))) Prayers are going up for both of you. What a scary time. Prayers for comfort, calm and peace. May you feel the loving arms of Jesus wrapped around you. "For God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.." 2 Tim. 1:7 Prayers for the doctors also, that they will find answers. Keep the faith!
ReplyDeletePraying for you!
ReplyDeletePraying for Emma and that her medicine will work and no more seizures! I will also be praying for her neurology appointment and that God will give the doctor she sees total wisdom concerning her and the very best plan of action. God bless kathyb and her husband for being with her at the hospital. It is so wonderful when the body Christ works together, encouraging and lifting up. Praying for you, too, Donna. So hard for a mom.
