Favorite fall poem.
SOMETHING TOLD THE WILD GEESE
By Rachel Field
Something told the wild geese
It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, "snow."
Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, "frost."
All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice,
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.
Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry.

Happy Fall!

Burgundy is such a great color on Katie! How does she like her hair now that she has had a few days with it? It is so darling.
ReplyDeleteSweet poem, and I am loving the cooler temps and rich palette of autumn. I am a better person in autumn (-:

Just what I was going to say, too!

Katie seems to be adjusting to the short hair styling. She is gone this week so it will be fun to see how she managed on Friday when she returns.
DeleteKatie's haircut is absolutely adorable. Please tell her that I am green with envy - I would love to be able to wear a cut like that! But for whatever reason, God gave me hair that is baby-fine. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the hair!!!! Thanks for posting more pics!!!
ReplyDeletePretty girl Katie ! I miss your long hair:(
ReplyDeleteKatie looks so grown up...a young lady now, not a little girl. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the poem! Will have to add it to our memorization list. We've been slacking lately on the memory work, so I'd better get to it!

Katie would be cute in any hair style. I love it long and short. She looks like a sassy fashionista with it short. ;)

ReplyDeleteHappy Fall.
ReplyDeleteOne and all.
: )
Kaish has been having a hard time at school. This is not surprising to me as every year has been hard for him. He is frustrated about Math. And Language Arts.
He has a hard time with his friends. They are sometimes-y. I should think of a real word to put there. Something that would make me sound educated.
Gary has been working long hours again. 17 on Sunday. Can you even imagine. He took off Monday and slept the whole day. When he was awake he was grumpy. He snips at me. I try to be nice and not snip back but I am mean often.
Kaishon is also acting so odd lately. My Mom says that this is 13 year behavior. I say it is frightening. I asked her if I was like this and she said I was worse. Oh.
Work is ok. I told you that when I started my new job the pay was $7,000 less than what I was getting at my lost job, right? Did I tell you? Gary gets so mad at me for not earning more. I ask him if he is happy I am helping people and he says no. I tell him I love my job because 4 out of 5 days I can greet Kaish at the bus. Gary says he doesn't care because Kaishon is 13 and he doesn't care if I meet the bus or not. That might be true.
I just feel overwhelmed with life. I am very scared about going to the I heart faces conference, because even though I LOVE the girls there, I won't fit in. They are fashionable and cool. I am not either of those things.
I feel sad already about leaving my boys even though they are both on the outs with me.
I wish you lived next door so I could come and have a cup of something with you : ). I would bring you starbucks and ask them to write your name on the cup because I know you like that.
Thanks for listening to me tonight. I feel like I just had a little therapy session.
You are my friend.
Becky, you will be welcomed with open arms and hearts at the conference. You have a beautiful heart and soul. You are loved, I know that for sure.
DeleteOne day at a time with hubs and son. Follow your heart and your generous soul.
If it's good for the kingdom of God....loving others....you are on the right track...no matter what a grumpy person might tell you.
Oh, and P.S. That is one of my favorite pictures ever in the world. The hands and the leaves. Stunning.
