Red Carpet with Miz Boo

This is a musician named Pharrell.  It's his year.  Really it is.  But unfortunately he is worst dressed man in my opinion.  The worst dressed woman was a very pregnant lady.  I am not going to show her picture because it's just too mean.  There were a hand full of expecting ladies on the red carpet who looked lovely.   One woman just looked terrible.  You can google it.  It was actually the worst maternity dress I have ever seen.

This is Naomi Watts.  She wore my favorite white dress of the night.  It was hard to find a really good picture.  That dumb white really blows out.  The texture was beautiful and it fit her perfectly.

This is Guilanna Rancic.  She is a host for the "E" channel.  This is the best she has ever looked.  Again they did not let her on the red carpet.  Only Ryan Seacrest got to interview the stars.  I swear this is because people hate Joan Rivers and G. is on a show with Joan.  When are they going to get rid of that awful Joan?  Her jokes are crude and mean and the stars steer clear of her.  She is ruining the whole teams reputation.   Why doesn't anyone listen to me?  Hullo.......

I like this on Julia Roberts very much.

This dress is perfect from the front.  They back had some bunching going on.  But that pink and that black.  Oh my gosh.  Beautiful.  She is so lovely.  (Penelope Cruz)

Meryl knows she gets slammed every time she is on the red carpet.  This was the perfect thing for her to wear.  She looks great!  I wish she would have won.

Sally Field looked sparkly and appropriate and beautiful.   Gosh, I like her.

Bette wins for best hair and face and cheek bones and skin and figure and spirit and for her emotional and perfect singing.

Cate Blanchett in my runner up.  She is amazing.  I wanted her to spin around and shake a bit...but she didn't.  Isn't that dress gorgeous?  Her hair...her earrings....
She won for Blue Jasmine.  Did anyone else see that movie?  She was very very good.  Think of a modern day Blanche from Streetcar.  Her speech was very good too.  Girl Power.

This is Lupita Nyong'o.  She had me at hello.  That color. Oh my gosh.  She really was the best dressed.  I loved her make up.  Her headband.  That cut...and color.  Love is blue.

And then....it looked like this.
I mean.  Come on.
Best. Best. Best Dressed!!!

Bette Midler singing Wind Beneath My Wings was my favorite thing about the whole show.

What do you think?  Do you like these dresses?  Lots of old gals this year.  haha.

Who did you like?

Happy day after the Oscars!

Encourage one another,
Donna

  2. I've been gone all day, just returned and sat down, and here you are!

Your choices are fab. I saw a couple of quick glimpses of dresses this a.m. on the Google, but I didn't have time. I do love your top choices, Donna. Youddabest.

I will go to youtube to hear Bette; sadly the video doesn't work outside of the U.S., but that's okay, I'll find it. I know I will love it.

How did you like the show? I read the Ellen wasn't so wonderful. too bad. Makes for a long night, yes?

    thanks for these lovely images!!!!!

  3. I know the maternity dress you speak of, and yes, why didn't someone tell her truthfully how she looked. At one point I thought maybe the baby had already been born and was in a pouch under that dress.
There is something about Bette Midler that just makes me smile. Even looking at TV I feel this very good energy coming from her.
How about Pink singing Over the Rainbow? I was wonderfully surprised at her singing and her appearance. I have always loved that song and used to sing it to my sons as a lullaby.

  4. I don't usually go for this, but I loved Jennifer Garner's dress. The way it moved when she walked was snazzy. I liked Julia, Penelope and Sally, too. Sally is how old and I still consider her cute!

Nothing to do with fashion, but I felt sorry for Kim Novak and John Travolta.

    1. Jennifer was pretty in her flapper dress. The color was too blah I guess for me.
John Travolta. So dumb. Kim Novack should have stayed home. Embarrasses. Matthew was the perfect gentleman. Helping her gently. Her face was grossly lifted and noticed. Sad.

    3. I agree Southern Gal, Jennifer Garner's dress was absolutely lovely, the swish of it was just delightful!
Poor Kim Novak and John Travolta, they both looked like botched botox and plastic surgery specimens.

I wonder if Joan Rivers doesn't have some sort of ownership interest in E!, because they need to dump her like yesterdays newspaper. Guiliana Rancic looked absolutely beautiful! I wish she would be allowed on the red carpet. Love her!

    4. I wonder what Jennifer's dress would have looked like in blue? Yes, Matthew did a fabulous job presenting with Kim Novak. I can't help but compare Sally and Kim. I know Ms. Novak is 81, but I think aging gracefully is a better choice. We are all going to get old one day. Just sayin'.

  5. I wholeheartedly agree with you on Lupita, best dressed by far! And her speech was so gracious. The purple pregnant lady, oh it was so sad, she could have looked so lovely! To me nothing is more beautiful than a baby bump, and she completely hid it! Cate looked lovely but her acceptance speech was not my favorite...at all...Meryl was a stunner but we have to agree to disagree about Julia Roberts. As always her face was beautiful but I felt that that top did her top half no favors at all, it made them look droopy and matronly. I was at an Oscar party with a bunch of girls where we get dolled up, make movie themed munchies, and watch the Oscars together, maybe you should do that next year, it's really fun!

  6. I think Guliana's and Penelope's dresses are young for them. Maybe it's just the pink of Penelope's dress.

Lupita is just spectacular in every way.

I don't visit blogs much any more, but I come here every year for the Oscar round-up. :)

  7. Love your choices. I wasn't crazy about Julia's dress, although I didn't hate it. I did love Camila Alves dress a bit more than Penelope Cruz' dress. The both looked lovely, though. I have to say that I thought Pink did an amazing job singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. What a talent. She and Bette were stunning. Oh, and Idina Menzel... I have loved her since I saw her in Wicked with Kristen Chenoweth so many years ago!

  8. Great job as always, Donna!

I was kind of walking in and out of the room while the Oscars were on and followed some of Steph's commentary since you were mum, so I did see quite a few of your picks. But I missed the awful maternity one, so off to google!

  10. Guilanna's dress is one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen. It's my #1.

LOVE Lupita's dress. Your second photo of it convinced me. :)

I like Cate's dress but the whole look; hair, skin, dress is so monotone. She needed a little tan. Or something.

  14. I loved Lupita's dress, too. It was definitely my favorite. I also liked Jennifer Lawrence's red number and I thought Matthew McConaughey's wife looked beautiful. Jennifer's dress seemed to suit her youthful energy and Camilla's pale pink looked wonderful with her coloring.

I always look forward to your commentary. :)

Seeing Bette Miller and how she looks so great at her age and still is wearing clothes that show her neck made me feel really good about getting older. And, I read that Cate said her dress was very heavy, but she loved it so much she had to wear it. Hope you find the clip, Susan. jep

I loved most of the dresses last night. AND is it me, or did most every lovely lady get the modesty memo this year? --I am not a prude, but I am over the moon in hopes that the pendulum is swinging back from dresses cut down to there and up to there and barely anywhere.

I like your choices of dresses. There was so many I liked, but Lupita's is my favorite. The couple of times I've seen her on t.v. she always looks amazing.
Pharrell. I did not like the shorts. Ugh. It reminded me of high school prom when some of the boys wore shorts to be "cool". Duh.
    I loved Bette. I cried.
I am going to step out and disagree with you on Ellen. I thought she was hilarious!
I thought Pink looked great in that dress. I liked her performance. I think it was just a change from her usual stuff.

Thanks for your review! : )

    1. Sarah,
This is the first time I have ever watched the Oscars, and I thought Ellen was funny, too. Her asking people if they were hungry? And Kerry Washington raising her hand so quickly? It made me laugh (-:
I loved seeing all the fashion. My kids really liked Jennifer Lawrence's look. I thought it looked great on her, esp. the cool way to wear the necklace, but I am not crazy about the color. I thought Amy Adams looked amazing, too. Why no jewels, though? I think that could have catapulted that look to the top! What a color. And I thought her hair was so beautiful.
Sandra Bullock was another favorite. What a gorgeous woman!
Cate was perfect. And I really liked her acceptance speech. I esp. like how she talked about each of her fellow nominees. Very sweet.
Your favorite is so beautiful, Donna. The color! The skirt! I am really not crazy about the front of the bodice...the back was perfect, though. And even with that disclaimer, I think it is my favorite. She was so happy and cute and BLUE! And grateful. Love it.
Meryl is amazingly beautiful. Some of those older women looked like wax figurines. Ick!

All in all it was so fun to watch.

      Happy Monday,

  20. I watched some of the Oscars last night - still in recovery mode from mission trip so I did not stay up late! I thought Amy Adams was beautiful. Loved her dress, hair, and makeup. Sandra Bullock, also. I liked Lupita's, but I think a little less décolletage would have made it more spectacular. I think the pregnant lady you are speaking of is expecting twins - at any moment.

My daughter's senior prom is in May and she and her friends have begun searching for dresses. She's decided she wants a dress just like Lupita's, but a bit less low cut in front. Wish us luck!! :)

Totally agree with you on Bette -- LOVE her! Since she sang near the time Glenn Close and Goldie Hawn presented, my friends got to talking about their ages. When we googled and discovered how close in age the three of them are, we all agreed that Bette looks the best. She has aged gracefully and, I think, looks even better than she did as a young woman. Go Bette!!

Loved the speeches from the 4 main actors. Several made me cry. So touching!

Oh, and John Travolta should have practiced pronouncing Idina's name. Geez Louise.

I agree that Bette Midler was amazing. I swear she looks better than she did when she was younger and her voice hasn't failed a bit. What a treat. And I agree with Cheryl, Pink did a fabulous job singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. My favorite dresses were Lupita, Penelope Cruz, and Amy Adams. I know Amy's was plain, but talk about classy. She looked fabulous. Donna, I wish Meryl Streep had won too. That was the most dysfunctional family ever, but her acting in that film. All I can say is Wow.

Favorite dresses: Sandra, Julia, and Matthew's wife. I wish Lupita's had not been so low cut, it was beautiful!
Favorite moments: Matthew's acceptance speech and the couple who won for best song. They were cute!
Favorite men's clothes: Matthew and the man who won best supporting. They looked fabulous!
Ellen did ok. I liked that there was no bad language, no nasty "jokes" and she is very kind.
Off to find the bad pregnancy dress.

  24. I'm never a big fan of the Oscars, but for once, I did watch along with a friend. I saw the maternity dress of which you speak but I'm going to throw this out there: It's hard enough being pregnant and have the pressure on you to look fabulous and all that, esp. next to your hunk of a husband. Although I don't think it was the best choice, she's having twins and probably feels a little tired, bloated and afraid of possible criticism. I think her face looks radiant and I'm giving her a total pass! The stylist probably gave her a number of looks and she may have selected one that no longer fit when it was time for her to wear it and this one was the only one that did. Totally plausible.

  30. I really liked Pink's voice and rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow (which I also thought was appropriate right after the memorium clips) but she's getting criticism over her phrasing of the words ... not "breathing" right and splitting phrases/words when she shouldn't have .. but I thought her voice was great... and ... her gown was BEAUTIFUL.

Bette Midler. PERFECTION! I had that song played at my late father's memorial service over 25 years ago ... HE was the wind beneath my wings. Can't hear it without thinking about him and getting tears in my eyes. Thank you, Bette!
