Life in the big city.

Badgers vs Spartans

Last night Patrick and I went into town (Madison) to watch the Badgers play the Spartans.  The traffic was horrendous.  Everything else about the night was great!  But I tell you.  City traffic jams just take the fun out of things.  It makes me never want to go down there again.
We do have the option of taking a bus...but the bus I saw, that was loading fans at a bar on Regent was behind us and we were five minutes late.  A lot of people were late.  Maybe other people don't mind. But I do think that is the first time I have ever been late to a game.  In my life.

And well.  I survived.

Breathe in.  Breathe out.

We are accustomed to leaving early.  We are pros at that.

Thank you Joe for the tickets!
Great seats!  Fun game!

Here is a photography pointer for shooting at an indoor sport like this with crazy light differences.
Because of the dark all around the camera wants to balance the light so most times I see very very bright floors in basketball pictures.  I wanted my basketball floor to look right so here is what you do;
tap your screen on the basketball court. This will tell your camera in your phone to focus and adjust the light where you have tapped.  You are overriding the auto in your camera by doing this.
Try it with your phone camera.

Look at the bench. Do you think there are enough coaches/staff?
Rosa, I looked for your hubby but did not spot him :o)

We went to see The Silver Linings Playbook.  Did I tell you that?
It's very good.  I'd like to see it again.
It's rated R. So beware.

Photography tip two.
Make them spit out their gum.

Leaning

She leans. She is a leaner.
We like it.

Leaning trumps nipping.  For sure.

Happy Wednesday!

Encourage one another,
Donna

  1. Ha! Hubby was home with us watching the game. He occasionally attends the Mens games, but he oversees both Hockeys and Football. So I require him to be home otherwise ; ). It looks like you sat near our seats, though. Great tip on the photos. I loved the Bucky shot on Instagram. My, how she is developing into a lovely young lady. Katie too ; ) JK!

    1. I thought of that Rosa. That it must be hard to have him gone so many nights. They showed the new football coach in the stands. Everyone cheered. Viking QB was there. Hockey star mckabe.
I wanted to be on the kiss cam :). Cute couple was on... He from Mich, she from Wis :)

  2. Love the photo of Katie & Ginny, along with their image on the calendar above - and all the pretty softness on the edges. I'm guessing that's the lens-baby? (oops, not sure I am remembering that correctly).

City Driving + traffic = stress. At least for me. I prefer the quiet life too.

The worst traffic my husband and I have ever been in was in San Deigo. We were scared. We didn't experience the "traffic jam frustration", but the traffic was really fast and we didn't know where we were going! I can laugh now, but at the time...not fun. :)
I loved Silver Linings Playbook! It's definitely in my Top 10.
Oh, and one of my goals for 2013 is to be on time. I would drive you crazy! LOL So far I've been pretty good about being on time!

  5. Going to take a crack at commenting now that you're using blogger comments; the other did not work for me. All this just to say that your comment about leaning reminds me of the moving While You Were Sleeping "Are you sure? Because, it looks like he's...leaning." Thanks for the smile, Donna. :)

I pray when we are in traffic and when we have Vera in the car, I pray even harder. What is it with drivers that they want to go from the extreme left lane to the extreme right lane and exit not caring about all the drivers that they cause to put on their brakes? Our "adopted" son says that they drive that way in Mexico where he has lived and has relatives. Oh to be able to use my school librarian teacher voice and tell them, "That is not acceptable!" So glad you made it to the game and home safely. I am also pleased that we live in a little town where we have only a "rush minute" instead of a rush hour.

Lovely photographs and thanks for the tip about indoor games. I am reading Henri J.M. Nouwen's book Bread for the Journey this year and feel blessed that someone here recommended it. love and prayers, jep

I have spent long periods of time trying to Photoshop-out chunks of gum between teeth. Yeah, spit out the gum! LOL

My golden doggie is a snuggler. Wherever my hubby or I sit, she wants to be right up next to us. I love it!

  8. I learned to drive in the San Francisco Bay Area where there is SO much traffic. I cannot imagine driving with student drivers there...it would give me a heart attack. I am grateful for life in the country, but people do drive like lunatics on small country roads. Crazy.

And don't get me started on the bob and weave type of driver you were experiencing in Chicago. People rag on kids so much for phone use, but it is adults that I have had the scariest experiences driving near. Argh!

Leaning Ginny is so sweet. Our pup was abused in her first home, so she is a hesitant snuggler. Poor baby. We love hugging her, but she's not so crazy about it.

College hoops...my greatest sports love. March is coming!! Let the Madness Begin! Our Oregon Ducks are actually doing really well this year, so we hope to see them in the tournament. I am hoping Bren and I can see some March Madness play in San Jose.

    Happy Wednesday,
    Di

Glad you had a fun night after the stress of getting there! Greg absolutely hates driving into the city. Thank goodness there is bus service offered to most Cub games, or he might never leave the suburbs. The rest of us go to Chicago every chance we get, so of course he thinks there's something wrong with us. :)

  12. Terry and I went to a Titans football game a month after moving here and the traffic was horrendous. We were late, too. like you, it made me never want to venture up to Nashville again. :). Thankfully we've never hit another traffic jam. We went to a hockey game Monday night and it was a lot of fun. My hometown St Louis Blues won in a shootout Overtime.

    Love leaning Ginny.

I went to see Silver Lining Playbook while my husband went to a meeting. I loved it too. Looking back, I don't understand why it was rated R. I got so caught up in the story!
