birthdays and graduations and chai
We are going to Omaha for Malachi's first birthday soon.
I can't wait!
Katie has graduation pictures taken today with her 8th grade class. She chose everything about this outfit and made the flower headband...or as I call it...her crown.
Now. The scoop may be too low and the hem too short for her Principal's taste (and rules).
I have washed my hands of it. I sent her with a sweater and said, "Don't call me."
She loves it.
I think she's darling.
But da rules are da rules....and I'm letting her take the chance.
I told her I will not buy anything else if she is told she can't wear this. She will have to wear something she has already worn to school.
(I think it is plenty modest for what it's worth...but then I don't mind the costumes on DWTS...heh...cough cough.)
So we shall see...I'll let you know if she gets the go ahead.
I would never bend the rules.
I would just be a bonehead.
Remember the time I was told to wear a dark skirt for a concert and I took that to mean...dark orange.
Boy was my mom mad. I was just about Katie's age. Edison Jr. High School. Choir Concert.
"to dream the impossible dream....."

My tooth is much better today. It was infected and it was not going to get better without a root canal.
My dentist is super speedy. His assistant played the best music from her Pandora.
If you are in the Madison area and you need a great, fast dentist, let me know.
I recommend him and it seems the ladies at the office all go to him and think he's the best.
****
Oprah has a new chai at Starbucks and I was losing sleep over the fact that I was not going to get my drink...the same.... like I have had it for three years. Turns out that at the Starbucks I go to will keep both.
Katie says, "You don't like change do you?"
"No". Say I.
"Why would they change it?" I cry.
"Because they think you will like it." Says my little wise one.
"Oh. That's true." Says the real baby in the family.
I love that little girl. She is smart and funny and very lovable.
Thanks for stopping by!
Encourage one another,
Donna

Katie's sweet dress looks perfectly modest to me. I hope it gets a Pass. And don't change things with the intent to "improve" it. Tazo changed their Awake (English Breakfast) tea and the new concoction is downright yucky. Just my opinion, of course.
ReplyDeleteJust beginning my day here in Alaska! I am so tickled that you will be visiting your fam in Omaha! Yay!
ReplyDeleteThe whole dag-gone outfit is darling. I hope it is okay :-)
Your conversation about chai sounded like something Christopher Robin would say to Pooh, if Pooh liked chai (I sorta think he would!) Katie is a peach of a gal.
Yes. We are Piglet and Pooh. No doubt about it.

Susan, you are so right! Donna has written that conversation just like A.A. Milne and they do sound like Pooh and Piglet. I love it! And Donna, Katie's outfit is adorable. I hope she passes inspection. She looks very modest to me, and sweet.
DeleteDebbie Z.
I love that dress. If you could see the dresses that girls wear to John's school graduation...for eighth grade. I spent less on my wedding dress (which, in truth, is not saying a whole lot, but it is saying something!)
ReplyDeleteDark orange. You really are my long lost twin. I totally would have done that, and my mother would have been horrified.
Polka Dots for the Win, dear Katie. Rooting for a "yes" from the principal.
Love and happy hump DAY to all,
Di
(and now I have Impossible Dream, and our cute little glee club voices, stuck in my head.)
Congratualions on all of these wonderful life celebrations. Seriously, that dress is cute and modest. Sorry about your tooth. Nothing is as painful as an abscessed tooth!
ReplyDeleteThis is a love, love, don't like, love post. (The don't like is for your tooth problems.)
ReplyDeleteThe Chai conversation? I can hear your voices. Very dear.
Hugs to you today.
My *WIN* for the day? (Because when something is good, I *have* to share it.) It's my son's birthday and we are celebrating tonight. He is losing weight and I wanted to come up with a dessert (he's not much into cake anyway, thank you Jesus) (because I've never made a good cake in my life) that was both spectacular and "legal."
Frozen bananas in the blender make a perfect ice cream consistency. I added some frozen strawberries and a packet of Truvia. The faux ice cream is back in the freezer. I can tell you it tastes AMAZING and looks fabulous and celebratory.
That is just fantastic! What a good mum!

Ditto!! Fabulous mom!
DeleteSuch good news about that dear guy. And the dessert, Yumola!!!

Katie looks adorable! And age appropriate! Four years ago at one of Molly's 8th grade events, a couple of her friends had to put on sweatshirts from the lost and found bin. They, however, had not followed the rules and had worn dresses with straps that weren't at least an inch wide. We didn't have to like the rules, but we did have to follow them.
ReplyDeleteLove both of your grandsons' facial expressions in the picture. Melinda is sure a lucky mom to be holding such gems.
Please let us know what you think of the new chai if you get brave and try it. :)
Mary Z
Ahhh rules. Its just the beginning in her young life eh? I say she looks amazing and modest.
ReplyDeleteZach now teaches at a Catholic grammar school so I get it
Oh! I didn't know that! Is he teaching Spanish?
DeleteKatie in that outfit=adorable, hope she gets to wear it to graduation.
ReplyDeleteI watched a video of Oprah making the choices for her chai and I can tell you in the kindest possible way that it would not appeal to me at all...too, too spicy. A little spicy yes, but not too, too thank you very much. Hooray for a good, speedy dentist with good music playing there, sounds like a keeper. Beautiful Melinda and the boys just make me smile. Our little grandson bent his knee coming down the slide last night and had to go to the ER and is in a cast. Thanks be to God for his daddy's swift thinking and the doctor's knowledge. Childhood is rough sometimes...hard to think of a one year old in a cast, makes me cry. Coming here always brightens my day and makes me feel good. love and prayers, jep
Oh my. A little cast. That is so hard. My neice broke her leg skiing....the first time down. I remember her tiny cast.
DeleteAfter a terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad morning, I needed to come here like Norm from Cheers ("Steph!!!") and commiserate with other women, wives, and mamas. I found exactly what I needed. Thanks, Donna. You live out loud in such a wonderful way.
ReplyDeleteSTEPH!! Pull up a stool. :-)
DeleteI was thinking this a.m.that I would leave a quick hello on your FB wall, but I could smell coffee coming from my sister in law's kitchen and I am like Pavlov' s dog and went trotting to it :-) May the rest of your day bring joy!! xxx
Steph! Hope the rest of the day turns out better. love and prayers, jep
DeleteSteph! Everybody here surely knows your name and appreciates your wise and encouraging comments. I don't comment enough to be known, I don't think, but I'm here, lol.
DeleteHowdy, Steph!!! Some days we just need to pull up a chair, don't we? I have friends over to my gazebo and we collapse and (ahem) sip and solve all the world's problems. We can't do it alone.
DeleteLoves yous guys (as we say at our house),
Di
Steph! Always good to "see" you on your corner stool. :)
DeleteMary Z
Love you, Steph.
DeleteMakin' your way in the world today takes everything you've got….
DeleteSIGH.
I think i'm in the post-easter-need-some-sunshine funk. and EVERY COTTON-PICKIN'-LITTLE THING went wrong this morning. Death by a thousand paper cuts. But then I come and see polka dots and floral laurels [see what I did there?] and Ginny smiles and Di hugs and Susan coffee and Carol connections and jep wisdom and Bee greetings [!] and it feels like…. family. If we can't live in a commune, we can at least gather for one here. :)
You are loved with an everlasting love...
DeleteLoving kindness makes a world of difference. <3
DeleteWe love her too!

Nancy Peacock? From Canada? OK, I'm gonna take a shot in the dark. Did you go to CCBS? As Nancy Smith? Are we long-lost friends? (I'm Carol (Harper) Bakker)
DeleteHere's hoping for another awesome QLCS connection.

I'm checking the comments often, curious...so curious. And excited. Yikes!
DeleteAlso watching, breath bated.
DeleteKatie is a doll... my favorite part of that photo is your real-life home. :-D The rumpled rug, the wad of paper that missed the basket, the piles on the dog kennel. Awesome! Just like my house.
ReplyDeleteI shuddered a little about posting that. But. What cha gonna do?
DeleteThe amazing thing is: I never noticed ANY of those details :-) too busy gazing at Katie and how nice she looks :-) this is real life, illustrated in this photo and Pam is right, it's just like all our homes xxx
DeleteNo shuddering. Keep it real, Miz Boo. We all have the proverbial rumpled rug.
DeleteDi
Yeah... no shuddering. It's perfect just the way it is. :-)
DeleteI think Katie looks adorable. Love the polka dots, the TOMS and the crown of flowers. How sweet! I'm glad your tooth is feeling better today. And as for the Oprah chai, I have been wondering what it tastes like....as someone said above, I don't like it too spicy either, but I am curious.
ReplyDeleteReferring to Carol's comment: That sounds tasty! I have tried blending a frozen banana, carrot juice, cocoa powder and a little milk and ice to make a milkshake. This recipe may sound gross, but the end result is so good. Ya know, if you're trying to be healthy. : )
Sarah P. from Iowa
I have heard it is spicy and less sweet. My sister Cindy said it was not spicy like the original. I will try a sample one day.
DeleteI think Katie looks wonderful in her dress - I hope she gets to wear it. The flower crown is just perfect! And those boys look too adorable in their matching shirts! Just preciousness, right there!
ReplyDeleteKatie's in like Flynn!!!
ReplyDeleteHooRAY!
DeleteKatie is adorable in that dress and garland. Wise girl, too.
