One week ago...

I'm sorry I've been gone so long.
The worst possible thing has happened...

Patrick and Shelby's baby could not make it.
Shelby did not feel any little kicks so she went to the Dr. office to have a check up.
There she got the worst news.
They could not find a heartbeat.

Poppy was born the next day.
She was 31 weeks and weighed three pounds and was 17 inches long.

Patrick and Shelby were very thankful that they could meet her and see her pretty little face.
They held her and loved her for hours and they will never forget those precious moments with her.

As hard as it is for us....
it is a million times worse for them.

Please pray for them.

Love
Donna

  28. Oh, Donna! My heart is so sad for your family! Give yourselves much grace during this time of grieving and know I am praying for all of you.

There is an amazing organization called "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" that has volunteers who lovingly document these losses through their gift of photography. I don't know if the hospital where they brought sweet Poppy into this world had this resource or not, but it is a wonderful way to preserve the memory of these sweet babies. (They have a Facebook page and resources for grieving moms and dads)

    Blessings,
    Tammy ~@~

    1. This service was not available at their hospital ...
The nurses were kind enough to take pictures. Patrick took
Some too. They are precious to us.

  35. Actually now I lay me down to sleep is available in our area, however we didn't really have time to call. We didn't know when I was going to deliver and we were really in no kind of state to plan that. It took time for me to be able to see her and hold her and I don't know if I could've handled that. We talked about it after we got home that it would've been nice to have a nicer photos of her but we both agreed we remember her how she looked to us- perfect.

    2. Thank you for sharing Shelby. With as much as I love photos I don't know that I would be able to call a stranger to come into that space with me either. Since we are so far away I love the perfect pictures you shared and I can't imagine wanting anything else.

    3. I do understand that, Donna. At a birth that I attended with one of their photographers present, she was not even noticeable. A very compassionate, gentle, soft spoken woman very much in the background during an emotionally intimate time for a family. I am so thankful that Shelby and Patrick have some photos to keep close to their hearts in the days ahead.

I'm so very sorry for your family's loss. Peace be with you all.

There is a company in Arkansas owned by a woman (who is a photographer) who lost her daughter and makes plates as momentos for grieving families. She shares her story and some other links on her website and blog -- incidentally, called Poppy Plates.

  42. There are no words to express how sorry I am for Patrick and Shelby, and for the rest of the family who also feels the loss so dearly. I know how a grandma's heart feels for her grandchild and child at the same time, and a beloved in-law as well. You will all be in my prayers.
