Apparently the word around town is that old ladies wear the side part and young cool girls wear a middle part. If that is is the case it's because they are ill informed.
The middle part was 'in' in the 70's. I clearly remember my father having an opinion about this.
Here is what he thought of the middle part.....
It made an impression on me and I have never worn a center part.
Also...
I watch too many period dramas to think a middle part is attractive.
Ruth with a middle part....
I rest my case.
It did, however seem to suit Cher.
And what can I say, who looks more chic than Ali Macgraw in the 70's
tearjerker, Love Story.
Love means never having to say I'm sorry about my middle part....I guess.
Encourage one another,
Donna Elsie
Laughing out loud!!! I never felt I could pull off the center part in high school, but all the cool girls did!
ReplyDeleteI think in my senior picture...it's pretty close to the middle...but thoughts of Ruth Buzzi kept me clear of it.
DeleteHa ha a middle part just seemed like a runway to my large nose. Camoflauge needed!
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere, but don't know if it's true, that Hedy Lamarr was the first celebrity to part her hair on the side and started the trend.
ReplyDeleteYour last line just made my whole afternoon!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I usually had a side part because I needed bangs to hide my enormous square forehead and chubby cheeks. Bangs and a center part just didn't quite fit that 70's look.
Thank you for chuckling at my last line. I live to make you laugh.
DeleteOh, I loved Love Story. I've watched it so many times, but I never agreed with that saying about love. If you love someone you will say, "I'm sorry," if you've hurt them. And yes, I wore a center part in my younger days.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's a very stupid philosophy. But they sure were a cute couple.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know where my part is....
ReplyDeleteand I wish we never gave up boot cut/flares. skinny jeans are not flattering but now I wear them like every one else.
This post made me laugh! Mainly because I just saw an old photograph of myself on Friday where I was a high school junior and had a center part with hair nearly to my waist. I looked at it and thought, "Shouldn't have done that...not attractive." : ) I rewatched Love Story a few months ago, because it had been years, and two things stood out to me. The amount of bad language (I had forgotten just how much there was) and the fabulous way Ali McGraw's character was dressed. The ultimate preppy! Classic and beautiful in her wool peacoats and plaid skirts with tights. The styling in that film was spectacular.
ReplyDeleteDebbie Z.
Totally agree about the styling. I don't remember the swearing.
