Chicago Tribune Fall Tradition

This cartoon is about the only thing I remember from my childhood newspaper reading!

(Except, of course, the sports section, Chicago Blackhawks articles.)

But, truly, I watched for this cartoon each fall and loved to study the landscape change from haystacks to teepees....smoke to the Indians.

It just fascinated me.

It's older than I realized, 1907, and it is not run in the paper any more.

You can read all about it if you're interested in the link below.

Summer Sun was on their wings...

Something Told the Wild Geese
by
Rachel Field

Something told the wild geese
It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, "snow."

Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, "frost."

All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice,
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.

Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry.

I don't tire of my favorite poems.
They just get better and better, don't they?

Have a lovely fall day!

Love you, Mean it.
