Dad and son sing a favorite old song together...

"Dad was a singer throughout his life - he was a Butlin's Redcoat and then travelled around singing in clubs around the country. He worked in a factory after he got married and still did a bit of singing on side. His nickname is The Songaminute Man - simply because of how many songs he knows. In the last few years his memory has deteriorated a lot - often not recognizing family. However, now when we've got him singing again he's back in the room. It's these moments that we treasure."
~Simon McDermott with his dad Ted.

Here at home, Katie made a big decision...she decided not to try out for volleyball.
The reasons...complicated and personal...

But she is very happy and relieved.

She still loves volleyball and will play intramurals and maybe some beach in the future.

I have a dentist apt. this morning.  I don't mind the dentist...I just mind the bad news I get every time I go.   It's my least favorite part of aging....so expensive. :o(

The other day I took a look at my eggs and thought they looked like Wall-E.
Hi Wall-E!

I was going to ask you how vball tryouts went; it is big news that she decided not to try out! I am sure she will keep plenty busy with her other high school activities. We don't have vball at our house this fall either. Happy/sad.

So great to see you last week! I am still enjoying the chocolate. Thank you for thinking of me!

  2. I am so glad Katie made a decision that brings her relief. Those are the growing up moments!!! I have thought of Katie as I watch Olympic beach v-ball (or try to stay up so I can watch.) Amazing skill required. I find WALKING on sand to be a good workout (-:

Dental Phobia here. Do not like it. But the main reason I don't is the "all you had to do was take better care of your teeth and we wouldn't be having this conversation" attitude. In the last ten years I started with a different dentist and it is a shame-free-zone. Love it. Hate the drill and I still just want to go to bed when I get home, but I don't feel like a loser.

    Happy Thursday all,
    Di

    1. YES!!! Walking on the sand IS hard. And the getting up! Once I'm down.... I'm down! Have you noticed the quick getting up???

Donna, you are so good at finding joy (the video of father and son...I loved it) and art (your eggs! you gave me a huge smile today. It made me think, "Here's looking at you, kid"). Thank you for the day brightener.

I so hope this appears here...the son and dad singing touched me. My dad is doing really well in the new memory care facility. He said it was an "easy move." Ha! All he had to do was get in the car and be taken from one place to the new one. We on the other hand are still a bit stressed from it all. Moving him from a larger place to a smaller one entailed LOTS. Dad is back singing again and loves it when they have their sing-a-long activities. He is participating and seems to be happy...Thanks be to God! Dear Donna, there are so many comments that I wanted to make on past entries. You and the QLCS have carried me through some tough days. Thank you! love and prayers, jep

    1. Hello jep! So good to see you here. I can only comment on my Kindle, not my laptop :-/

I am happy that your dad is doing well. Music has amazing benefits, yes? It's powerful.

Love and prayers to you xxx

  5. That is such a sweet video. Isn't the brain fascinating and the role music has in our brains....I ponder this often.

    Very proud of Katie. <3

  6. I saw that video yesterday and was touched. Then I had the song I my head all day but it didn't bother me a bit!

I have had terrible dental problems my whole life (even had a trip to ER with an infection on a weekend). But! My dental health is better in my fifties than ever. I attribute it to a daily dose of Vitamin D (4000mg) and vitamin K2. It's a very inexpensive way to make a difference. Now, if I could just get my teenage boys to consistently take them my dental bills will be a lot less. Hope you can give it a try. (I can recommend brands if you'd like.)

  7. I'm pleased for Katie and her decision. A sign of maturity.

You have my heartfelt sympathy pains regarding the dentist. Like Di, I have a no-shame dentist here in Munich and I am deeply grateful.

  8. Late to the party. The video has been blocked here, but I went to Youtube to watch it. I always am amazed when a hymn is played on the piano at a nursing home the residents will immediately light up and begin singing the words. Even if they aren't responsive to anything else, they will remember their favorite songs.

I know you'll miss volleyball, but yay for intramural and BEACH (!) volleyball!

I was a dental assistant for years. I know how to take care of my teeth. But lately I dread going, too. No cavities at my check up last week, but I know it won't last. ;) I feel ya.
