It doesn't happen to me often.
I can usually find something to talk about.
But this week I have been empty headed.

I have looked thru my favorite quote books and notebooks hoping something would spark my interest and nothing has come.

This morning I googled writers block and came upon am article at about.com.
I liked this section of the article best;

3. Cope with the Badness

"We can't be as good as we'd want to, so the question then becomes, how do we cope with our own badness?"
(Nick Hornby)

"You don't start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it's good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That's why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence."
(Octavia Butler)

"People have writer's block not because they can't write, but because they despair of writing eloquently."
(Anna Quindlen)

"If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word."
(Margaret Atwood)

"Don't get it right, just get it written."
(James Thurber)

"What I try to do is write. I may write for two weeks ‘the cat sat on the mat, that is that, not a rat.’ And it might be just the most boring and awful stuff. But I try. When I’m writing, I write. And then it’s as if the muse is convinced that I’m serious and says, 'Okay. Okay. I’ll come.'"
(Maya Angelou)

"I think writer's block is simply the dread that you are going to write something horrible. But as a writer, I believe that if you sit down at the keys long enough, sooner or later something will come out."
(Roy Blount, Jr.)

"Lower your standards and keep writing."
(William Stafford)

As if you haven't noticed, I am far from a perfectionist. (At least where blogging is concerned.)
So that is not the problem.
I guess I feel like I have said it all. I have run out of things to say.

Is that possible?

Many readers have not been reading every word I have written over these six plus years...
but I wouldn't want to repeat myself.

hahahahaha

My family can stop laughing now.

My family gets to hear my stories over and over.
Aren't they lucky.

Emma is quick to tell me she has already heard it.

I say. Too bad. I want to tell it again.

Our dad was a tease. A big tease.
He told us the toll both was a popcorn machine, but he didn't want to wait for the popcorn.

We would scream and holler but he would not give in.

Then he would call cows, alligators.
He would not back down.

And when ever we passed a cemetery he would say, "People are dying to get in there."
I would say, 'oh! that's because you have to die to be in a cemetery.'

He would say, 'Nope, that's not it.'

And I would reason and argue and try to figure it out. But he would never let on.

Just this week, I said to Katie as we passed a cemetery on the way to school, "People are dying to get in there."
She said, "that's because you have to die to be in a cemetery."
And I said, "Nope."

We glanced at one another and giggled.

Do you know why I take so many pictures?

DSC_8601-3

Because I am practicing.

DSC_8616-3

And because Katie's new "bow" is cute.

DSC_8626-4

I just want to get better.

DSC_8639-4

And that takes practice.

And it's a whole lot funner than cleaning the house.

Wishing you lots of learning and fun times today.

Hi honey.

oct 12 053asher

This morning I stopped by Melinda's (my daughter-in-law)blog and was greeted by bright eyed, smiling Asher!!!

Oh what a sweet face! I can't wait to see him again! Soon. It will be soon!

Melinda wrote part four of her birth story last night....
if you love birth stories, like I do, visit;

Melinda @ Put on Love

He is pretty bald, isn't he? I don't see any infant acne....it must have gone away quickly.

He is so cute. I can't stop staring at him.

Still practicing with my 85mm. It gets easier the more I use it. I am not one of those people who can switch back and for between lenses with ease. It takes me some times to adjust. Days even.

Shooting into the sun causes glare. Using 'Soft Light' in Photoshop takes care of that problem.

I sharpen, sometimes lighten, almost always do a contrast bump.

That's it. Very easy work flow.

Oh. And I shoot in jpeg.

I am thankful to see the miners being brought to safety this morning. What an awful ordeal and what a remarkable rescue!

****

And I am thankful for Asher and his loving parents.

"Grown don't mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown. In my heart it don't mean a thing."
-- Toni Morrison

Before becoming a mother I had a hundred theories on how to bring up children. Now I have seven children and only one theory: Love them, especially when they least deserve to be loved.
Kate Samperi

"The best way to keep children at home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant, and let the air out of the tires."
— Dorothy Parker

Dang. Where have you been all my life Dorothy?
I actually know nothing about her...but I love that quote.
Must google Miz Parker today.

Happy Wednesday!

Twitter.

Good gravy. Do I need another way to socialize? Really?

Well. I was drawn in by Bonnie's mom Alice. I swear.

When I saw that Alice was tweeting, I had to follow.

I miss Alice and Bonnie now that they are not on television anymore. So I joined.

Alice tells her funny jokes and that's about all.
Bonnie tweets very rarely.

Turns out I follow mostly football players.

This is my son Patrick's fault.
He has been on Twitter for a while and follows lots of sports figures and entertainers. When we were in California he was following basketball players and telling me what they said. I thought it was kind of cool to hear the inside scoop.

I follow Jermichael Finley who has gone in for surgery this morning and Kurt Warner who had a nice dinner with his wife after the show last night.

It really is the epitome of lurking/stalking/ being nosey, isn't it?

I'm not going to analyze this. You can do it. Just don't tell me.
I'm enjoying it.

I want to tell you the best thing I follow....well except Patrick and Emma....

The best thing I follow is C.S. Lewis.

Yes. He has a Twitter.

I get a daily quote from C.S. Lewis and I actually look forward to it.

C.S. Lewis on Twitter

"When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now."
~Lewis

and todays...

"Heaven enters wherever Christ enters, even in this life-"
C.S. Lewis

So that is my Tuesday confession...I Tweet.

Most of the time I feel like I am talking to myself, which reminds me of my mother.
We would make so much fun of her when we would catch her talking to herself....

So glad I have twitter so I don't look crazy talking to myself all day long....
even if it is only the illusion that someone is listening....

About DWTS.

Every single year the stars dance the Rumba. Every single year it is a disaster.

The producers placed the hardest dance on a new floor....and then the judges slaughtered them.

Jennifer Grey's tango was spectacular. It think it is my favorite dance of the season and perhaps favorite serious dance of any season. (I'm a big fan of happy dances.)

She is remarkable!! I give it a TEN!
Now. That's dancing!

Carrie's family and her growing business.

One of their items has been chosen and ordered by a VERY cool and famous national store!!

It was the perfect day for a homecoming parade. Jesse, our favorite packer at the grocery store told me there was a parade today at 4:15. It was so gorgeous out and I thought Katie would like it so I picked her up at school and brought her home just in time to run out to the parade.

I've never seen such a short route and Katie has never seen such a short parade...but it was full of color and spirit!!!

Katie's favorite part of the parade was recognizing girls and coaches from town!
She's such a social creature.

I wonder where she gets that?

Cindy and I have a fun day planned. I'll take lots of pictures of her. hehe
We went to Hubbard Ave. Diner and had a great meal and then a fun talk late into the night.

I bought four things for Cindy at the store that say "Wisconsin".

Guess what they were?

Have a happy day!

Sometimes I just don't want to cook.

DSC_8091DSC_8098-cr

Patrick and Katie are happy to eat Culvers every so often.

I ate some Mexican Taco Stew that I prepared a few days earlier. Like most healthy recipes I make, I am the only one eating them so I have to prepare two dinners a night.

Here is the recipe for the Mexican Taco Stew. I found it on a blog, but it is from Whole Foods Cook Book.

Ingredients

1/2 pound 85% lean ground beef or turkey (I used organic ground beef)
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 large zucchini or summer squash, cut into small cubes
1 (15-ounce) can no-salt-added black beans (I could not find no-salt beans so I just used organic)
1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 cup frozen corn kernels
1 cup medium salsa

Method
Brown meat in a large pot over medium high heat. Drain, remove and set aside. In the same pot, sauté onion and garlic until onion is translucent. (I like my onions to be a little crunchier than soft so I skip this step and cook the onion, garlic, and meat together for a few minute.) Add meat back to pot and sprinkle mixture with taco seasoning to blend. Add remaining ingredients and simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, 15 to 20 minutes.

Cindy is coming today! I am so happy to see her.
She wondered if there was a 5K going on around Madison this weekend and I looked but didn't find one.
I told her we could walk from the Union up State St., around the Capitol and back to the Union.

Our Orange Chair 1 K.

She loved the idea.

DSC_1551-2

So we will be doing that some time Saturday afternoon.

(You just do not know how painful it is for me to post pictures of myself. I do it to tell the story. I think it adds to the story and fun of it. So I bite the bullet and post the pictures. I shall think of this picture as the before picture. By next July I will climb in that orange chair again...I sure hope to see a lot less of myself.)

****

Cindy is getting here at dinner time....

What should we do for dinner?

I can make something or we can go out for hamburgers downtown...

When you arrive somewhere, do you like to go out or are you happy to stay put?

Here are a few thoughts I wanted to share with you all.

I am reading a book called Plan B by Pete Wilson.

Here are a few lines from the book that I found especially interesting and oddly comforting.

"Someone once said, "Adversity introduces a man to himself."

Oh yeah. Time to readjust my ideas about who God is....

From John Quincy Adams, "Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties and obstacles vanish."

And this.

"I think you may need to hear something. You may be at odds with God right now. You're not happy with the way your life is turning out. You may be praying and pleading with God. (or not)
But is it possible you don't really want God?
Is it possible you just want what you think God can give you?

One of the things I believe God is teaching me in my life theses days is that at times we want our dreams more than we want God. We want what God does for us instead of just God."

You are right Pete. I REALLY needed to hear that.

***

Losing Sue, having to let her go, is the adversity I am going thru, in case you are wondering. I am working thru that grief.

Yesterday at Bible study, Sister Teresa mentioned that two of the Sisters in her community were near death.

The first thing that came to mind was, "Heaven is as prosperous as a soul can get."

Slowly I work thru the difficulties of doubt and faith and life and death and eternity.

Pete Wilson says,

"Sometimes it's right in the middle of our darkness, in the middle of our crisis, in the middle of our Plan B struggles that God speaks most clearly."

Here I am Lord. I am listening.

Hi! Sorry I'm late.

I get a bit out of sorts when real life interferes with blogging ;o)

I know most of you didn't watch Flash Forward last year, but Patrick and I did.

The premise was that at the same exact time everyone in the world blacked out for over two minutes and they saw the future.
No matter what you were doing, you blacked out. Woe is you if you were driving or flying or walking down some metal stairs.
It was a catastrophe.

When I come home after hours away, I sit in my spot on the couch and think," Phew. I am safe. I can black out now."

I don't just think it...I say it to Patrick. He understands. He thinks I'm nutty, but he understands.

Not a flash forward....a flashback!

October’s Party
by George Cooper

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came.
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.

The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses maple
In scarlet looked their best.

All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then in the rustic hollow
At hide-and-seek they played;
The party closed at sundown
And everybody stayed.

Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around."

Don't mind me if I share this poem every year, K?

The sound and the worlds just make me feel all glowy inside.

Any DWTS opinions this week?

I thought Brandy danced beautifully this week. She had a little attitude adjustment and I liked that...and I thought she was much improved.

I watched Kyle's feet a second time to see what Len was talking about....I thought they looked fine. He had much more complicated steps than many of the other dancers. Perhaps he was not leading with his heel.

Which leads us to The Situation. I felt it was painful to watch him. Why on earth he got those good scores I do not know.

Bristol was stiff and that white dress was awful on her. I think Bristol or The Sit will go.

You know. I always like the athletes attitudes and work ethic.
Kurt's hands were much nicer this week. I thought he was much less Olfish (cindy ;o)
I thought a suit would be more flattering on him and it was! He only weighs 207. Lightest weight since retiring. (Thank you KW Twitter feed)

Rick Fox and Cheryl are fun to watch during practice. She sure has confidence!

My favorite song of the night...The Coffee Shop song. How hilarious that Kyle and Lacy did not know who the Eagles were!!!

Have a fantastic day!
