time well spent?!

Almost done with my rectangle shawl. It needs to be blocked and it needs a crochet edge. I don't know how to crochet...yet. It's March. I'm going to wear it like this until it warms up. Then I will add the edge. It's soft. It's flawed.   #lacevirgin

So ALL those hours watching tv and movies....
they are spent, always, with something in my hands...
a game to play or something to knit.

Since October I have been knitting my first lace piece.
It is called a rectangle shawl.  It has not been blocked yet so I am wearing it as a scarf today.
I am wearing it before it is finished because I want to wear it before it warms up too much to wear it.

It needs a crocheted edge.  Scalloped.  It is not crucial to the piece but I'd like to try it.
I'd like to learn to crochet.

There are two rows that are wrong and it is noticeable.
They embarrass me a bit.
I'll have to get over it.

The yarn is alpaca and rayon so it is very soft.
Soft is my favorite kind of yarn.

So you see....watching television is time well spent in my world view.
I get so much pleasure from the outcome.

Encourage one another,
Donna Elsie

That is so beautiful, Donna. I love the color and the pattern. When you say you are wearing it as a scarf today, does that mean it will be a lap robe and not a scarf when finished? That would be a shame because it is such a nice color on you. Time well spent indeed.

    1. Debbie,
When the scarf is blocked it will be larger and the lace will show up nicer.
I will wear it over my shoulders like a shawl. Not bunched around my neck.

  2. You are beautiful, Donna. And the scarf is lovely, too.

I'm not sure you need to justify the time spent watching to any of your readers, by the way. They love you just as you are.

Emma is in my thoughts. I hope she is doing well.

    With love and warm regards,

    1. Postscript: I really like your frames. Are you wearing invisible bifocals? I am up to 2.50 in my reading glasses and the on, off, on, off is driving me mad. The doctor suggested invisible bifocals with only the correct for my astigmatism in the distance part (for now).

    2. Thank you, Melissa.
Emma is doing well today. Her new medicine seems to be working and she is not experiencing negative side effects.
Yes, my glasses are what they call progressives. They actually have three different 'distances' ; reading, computer and far away. (All technical terms :o)
I have never felt the computer one is correct. I have to lift my chin to get computer type/pictures in focus. I will try harder to achieve this with the next pair.

I am happy to hear from you!
      Your friend,

Thanks be to God for medicines that are working for Emma!
We are also praying for her.
A friend of mine who has been having health problems wrote to me to say thank you for being one of her "stretcher bearers" praying for her. A neat way to put it, I thought.
      love and prayers, jep

  3. What Melissa said. ^

The color suits you well. I think you will find it easy to learn to crochet. I learned when I was 21, a newlywed, and my best friend in the area was 15. If a fifteen year old can crochet, I figured, I can learn. I made several blankets, put down the crochet hooks and never crocheted again.

  4. Wow, Beautiful !

What a beautiful color and pattern, perfect for you!

no spring skips its turn." by Hal Borland
Here's hoping, we have even had a cold winter down here.
    love and prayers, jep

  6. I love the lacy look. Beautiful. Do you point out the lines you don't like? I do that with my sewing. My mama tells me to stop. ;) No one else notices.

  7. Yes -- your time is well spent if you end up with something beautiful that you made with your very own hands!
"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands." Now where have we heard that before? :)

  8. Beautiful, Donna! I just read the comments and see that Emma's medicine is working. That is very good news and a wonderful answer to prayer. :)

  9. What a beautiful scarf -- wonderful color and very pretty stitches. I love the idea of knitting so much but I cannot seem to get it down at all. I will try again -- I like the idea of sitting and knitting so much. It seems greatly comforting in its rhythm.

  10. It's beautiful, Donna! I would love to teach you how to crochet!

  11. The scarf is beautiful, as are you. STOP with calling attention to your mistakes. I'm a quilter and long ago learned from some Amish friends that only God makes everything perfect ... as a result they always intentionally put a "mistake" in their quilts ... to this day I refer to my "mistakes" when quilting as "my Amish" .... Linda

  12. The scarf is beautiful and it does look so soft. It is a great color on you by the way...

  13. I always envy women that have the ability to create things like this. If the Apocalypse ever comes my skills of writing will not be in much demand...whereas being able to sew and knit will be vital! Beautiful color, and I didn't notice anything amiss with your rows ;)

  14. Time well spent indeed! ~chris

  15. You are really beautiful.
You have this light that shines.
I think I can feel you rolling your eyes all the way from Wisconsin! Stop it right this second because you know I have too many eye rollers in my life already : ).

That is a really pretty piece. I think it looks just about perfect already. Soft things make me happy too. What do you think about those super soft blankets? I got one for Gary for Christmas. He takes it to his Dad's for when he has to stay over when it snows.

We really miss Mr. Adams. I really miss the soft blanket also. I wish you lived close to me so you could give me a hug and tell the kids to stop being mean.

Kaish is snoring now on the couch. Thank goodness. Bria has a job at my friend's hair salon on Saturday mornings. I have to get her there at 9:00. I am shooting a 1st Birthday party at 1:30. I am very excited for that because I love children.

Hello. So nice to see you. Would you like to leave a comment? Be very kind.
