be swift to love

When we visited Paris in 2007 my camera was about a month old.  I only had a 50mm lens on it.
I learned that with this lens...I could not get a whole lot in the picture.   We were up all night flying and arrived at our hotel at about noon.  We put our luggage away and took a bus immediately to the Eiffel Tower.
None of us wore gym shoes.

Our biggest fear was that we would be snickered at for wearing gym shoes in the most elegant city of lights.

The fear is incredibly different now.
But I know, without a doubt, that
Paris will overcome the fears and terrors of this terrible week.

“He who contemplates the depths of Paris is seized with vertigo.
Nothing is more fantastic. Nothing is more tragic.
Nothing is more sublime.”
~Victor Hugo

My friends, life is short, and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts
of those who travel with us, so be swift to love and make haste to be kind.
And my the blessing of the One who made us,
and the One who loves us,
and the One who travels with us,
be with you and those you love this day and always.
Amen.

~ Adapted from Henri-Frédéric Amiel (1821–1881)

Encourage one another,
Donna

  1. " be swift to love and make haste to be kind" Thank you for reminding me of that lovely thought. I'll carry it through my day - and hopefully far beyond.

  2. Oh, I love that prayer Donna. I am going to copy that out and keep it right in front of me. Thank you.

That picture of you and Patrick is beautiful! And that flower picture feels like home to me. Such a great QL banner.

Many strangers were kind to my Claire when she was in France. We have prayed for those whose names we don't even know, praying they are safe and that their beautiful city would, once again, come together and show the world that light and beauty can not be extinguished by hatred and violence. Such times we live in. Lord, have mercy.

    Hugs to you, dear Donna.

    2. I had this visit planned for Thanksgiving, since Sumner. I decided it was a good plan to return and see my dear dad sooner, rather than later. But brrrr it's kinda cold up there! I appreciate the prayers, I confess I am a bit weary xxx

  9. Oh, it's your banner photo. Lovely, all of them. The prayer means a great deal since we're dealing with loss right now.

    2. Thank you, Susan. Prayers are greatly appreciated.
And thank you, Donna, for the sweet comment on my blog. We just found out this morning that my sister-in-law, Wayne's widow, lost her brother this morning, 10 days after her husband died. Please pray for Jean, that God would strengthen and comfort her during this difficult time. Thank you all.

  10. Thank you for your beautiful words that I found today. I am an expat in Brussels and my heart is heavy. I often visit your blog, and you seem to be able to say comforting things when I need to hear them. Peace to you and your family.
