Stay.......

See the geese in chevron flight flapping and racing on before the snow They've got the urge for going and they've got the wings so they can go.......

I'll ply the fire with kindling and pull the blankets to my chin I'll lock the vagrant winter out and I'll bolt my wandering in I'd like to call back summertime and have her stay for just another month or so But she's got the urge for going so I guess she'll have to go

    1. Anita used the best word...melancholy. The picture of Katie is just so dreamy. It seemed to fit. But you know what? It fits so much for some reason.

    2. And the picture of Katie is at my favorite place in Chicago...
      the dog park.

  2. I'm feeling a bit melancholy this morning. The poem and photos are perfect to revel in while I read The Return of the King surrounded by the scent of my apple spice candle and sound of geese and cranes. And being SO relieved it isn't 80+ degrees and humid!

  3. Melancholy. Perfect word choice. It's your super power.
Enjoy the clouds, your book and that glorious sound of leaving birds.
I heard just one loud odd sounding goose this morning. It made me laugh.

  4. Lovely as always and thank you! I wrote quotes about Autumn and Art for October on the postcards I send monthly to friends who are in assisted living or live alone...just to give them a reminder that we still care and remember them. For Autumn: "Autumn is An artist who uses an oak leaf on which to paint a masterpiece." William Alan Ward And, the Art quote made me think of you and this blog post: "Light is the most important person in the picture. The real subject of every painting is light." Claude Monet love and prayers, jep

  5. I love Fall, it brings many emotions, for sure.

And I love this bit of a poem by Mary Oliver:

... Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
    are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
    the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
    are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
    in the family of things.

I have always enjoyed your fall posts, with poetry and photos. Makes me feel nostalgic.
    Thanks, Donna xx

I am late to this party, but Urge For Going is my favorite Joni Mitchell song and I learned to play it on the guitar once (very badly). Such wonderful lyrics. We moved to the other side of town and I guess we are out of the geese flight patterns now because I am not hearing their wonderful honks this autumn, which is one of my favorite things! I am going to have to play some YouTube videos of geese or something. The nostalgia and melancholy of autumn. It always affects me. Thank you for a lovely posting with wonderful photos.
