Emma ran a half marathon on Saturday in Milwaukee.
This was her first half marathon race.  She has been training for the Chicago Marathon in October and this race just kind of fell in her lap.  She was going to run with her childhood friend, but Keeley's leg has been sore so Emma ran alone.  Emma has run this distance for training and thought she would come in around two hours;  which she did.

I'm so proud of my little red headed girl.

You can praise God by peeling a spud if you peel it to perfection. Don't compromise. Compromise is a language of the devil. Run in God's name and let the world stand back and in wonder.~Rev. J.D. Liddell

I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.~Eric Liddell

Chariots of Fire.  Another movie for Emma to put on her list.  I am sure she has not seen it.

Now I want to see it again.

Happy Monday.

Katie is at school.  8th grade.

Encourage one another,

  1. Go Emma, GO! I cannot even imagine running that far, let alone that being preparation for TWICE that far. So glad she had a good race.

"Run in God's name and let the world stand back and in wonder." Great quote!!

    Happy Monday all,

  2. See Emma run

Oh, how I love this movie. It has been years since I saw it and the clip makes my teary. A life devoted to God, his blessing. Congratulations to Emma!! What a wonderful girl you have.

  4. Not only did she run wonderfully - she looks great too!

My husband runs marathon's in the mountains. WHY. I ask.

    He says: its fun!

Hope she tapers soon enough for October's main event :-)

BTW, now I want to watch Chariots too!

  5. I was just wondering when you were going to tell me to watch that movie. Will do.

Thank you for cheering me on!!

  6. Love the one with the rays of light. Go Emma!

My boss sent me a video of the upper school students saying that they missed me. I broke down in tears. Today is our first day of school and the first time in 15 years that I haven't been in the office. Good luck to Katie - cannot believe she is in 8th grade already.

Congrats to Emma and Happy First Day of School to Katie!

I only wish I could look half as cute as Emma after running 13 miles. I run a 5K and look like crazy wild hair zombie :).

Tell Katie that Carrie had to start school today too. First days are always good....

  8. Congratulations to Emma. My she's multi-talented. I've heard her sing a lovely alto line in a duet, I've watched her win an eating contest...and now this!

...And 8th grade already for Katie! Unbelievable.

    Congrats, Mom!

  9. Emma looks beautiful AFTER the race. Her joy from within just shines through.

Thanks for the reminder about Chariots of Fire. We read Eric Liddell last year and didn't get around to watching the movie with Ethan. It's on the list for this week.

How can she be in the 8th grade? Ethan received his bible and promotion to youth this past Sunday. Youth! He's in 6th grade. I still don't know how that happened.

Congrats to Emma and good luck to Katie! I'm sure you'll miss her quite a bit these first few weeks. Perhaps Ginny can do her part to keep you busy. :)

When Jamey was in high school, his cross country team watched Chariots together and it became one of his favorites. So, so good.

  11. Congrats to Emma! I love it when someone sets a goal, and does something healthy and awesome.

Good luck in Oct. for the longer run.

  13. "You can praise God by peeling a spud if you peel it to perfection." only i think this is not quite right... i believe you can praise God by peeling a spud if you do it with the right heart, whether you succeed or not. i am so glad my God doesn't only call perfection of me. Lord knows I do very little to perfection.

"I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure." love this... somedays i wish God made me fast... instead matthew teases that this is my theme song... (phox / slow motion) also, when i run i feel like God must me punishing me. ;)

believe it or not, i have never seen chariots of fire.

katie is still 6 in my head. 8th grade, how can this be? i liked 8th grade. then came 9th...

    the end.

  14. God blessed you in many other ways Melinda :)

I do remember that being such an uplifting movie and then there is the music...which I so enjoy.
Good Effort Emma. That is what our son told us to tell Vera when she does something well.
First day of 8th grade...keeping you each one in our prayers and everyone else here at QL blog, too.
    love and prayers, jep

  16. Congrats to Emma on the run ... you go girl!! Anxious to see how she does in October ... that's such an accomplishment! LOVED that movie ... still do. Sometimes we forget that the "oldies" are as relevant today as they were back then ... going to watch it again myself ... thanks for sharing! Linda

  17. Awesome job, Emma! And yes, see that movie!!

  18. Fantastic, Emma!

Katie in 8th grade! Where doe the time go?

  19. Yay, Emma! That's so AWESOME! And an upcoming marathon, too?! Sweet!

Our family seems to be growing runners left and right. One of mine will be running a half marathon in October somewhere down by you. Four of us are considering running the Rump Roast Run at the end of September. Will you be up here then?

    Tammy ~@~

P.S. I have never seen Chariots of Fire either......

    1. I'll be there that weekend again, tam, but ther will be no rump roast running for me. ;)

    2. You will, Steph? Out at Fort again? Not sure we're cooking a roast this year, so maybe I'll be more available :-)

  20. Runners are awesome. I love how Emma tries new things and challenges herself.
