The Trinity

Today, in churches that follow a liturgical calendar, is Pentecost or the Feast of the Holy Spirit. On this day we pay special remembrance to when Christ 'gave' the Holy Spirit to His disciples.

For some reason, the Holy Spirit is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Trinity.
He gets no respect.

Most of the time I pray to our Heavenly Father...and actually that name encompasses the Holy Spirit...but I am not thinking 'Holy Spirit'.

But as I understand it the Holy Spirit was sent to comfort and teach.

That's pretty important.
And so the church reminds us.

Prayer of the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, everywhere present and filling all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of life: come and abide in us, cleanse us from every impurity and save our souls, O Good One.

Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Growing in faith and understanding,
thanks to the Holy Spirit.
